    3. The Valley Falls New Era Jefferson County Thursday August 4, 1910 Katharine Gray McCoy. Katharine GRAY, was born in Franklin, Co., Ohio, July 3rd, 1831; departed this life July 31st, 1910. Was married to James McCOY June 28th, 1849 in Ohio. Seven children were born to this union, four of which are still living, J.H. McCOY, Barber Ellen BROWN, F.M. and D.W. McCOY. Of grandchildren there are 18 and great-grandchildren, 21. They came to Kansas in the fall of 1868, locating on a farm east of Valley Falls, where they resided until about ten years ago, when they moved to Valley Falls. Her husband preceded her to the better world, April 19th, 1906. Mrs. McCoy joined the Methodist Episopal church in her youth, and lived a consistent Christian life up to the time of her death. She has been a great sufferer for the past three years, which she born with much patience. She was a faithful and loving wife and mother, a kind neighbor and will be missed, not only by immediate family, but by a large circle of friends. The funeral was held from the M.E. church Monday afternoon in the presence of many friends and neighbors, Rev. C.B. Zook of Topeka, her former pastor, officiating, assisted by Rev. Beachamp, and the remains were laid to rest in the family lot in Rose Hill cemetery.
