A couple of years ago I checked the archives and found a cousin also looking for our gg grandfather ANTHONY W. MEYERS in Valley Falls KS. His uncle has looked for years before we started and also was STUCK the same place we are ... no city, no county and no relatives past ANTHONY W. MEYERS who was born in NC ... someplace!! And whose parents on both sides were also from NC ... someplace!! Anthony W. Meyers died 30 Jun 1895 and was buried in Valley Falls. His wife, Rebecca died 16 Jan 1906 in Valley Falls. I have both of their obituaries on both of them. OSKALOOSA TIMES newspaper, Friday July 5, 1895 page 5 column 3 says "A. W. Myers died Monday morning and was buried Tuesday a large number of his friends attending the funeral. He was 76 years old and was a resident here for a long time." (I think since 1865) THE NEW ERA newspaper Saturday July 6, 1895, Valley Falls Kansas page 8, column 3 under "Dunavant Items": "On last Sunday morning, after a protracted illness and much suffering with old age, and a complication of diseases, quietly and peacefully, passing from earth to the great beyond, Mr. Anthony MEYERS. (he actually went by MEYERS) The funeral service was conducted by Rev. S. V. Ismond of Hamilton, Mo. A large concourse of friends gathered at the home of the deceased which was evidence of high regard in which Mr. Meyers was held. The family have the lasting sympathy of all." And Rebecca Meyers, his wife - THE NEW ERA newspaper, January 18, 1906, page 5, column 3: "Died. Mrs. Rebecca Meyers who has been a sufferer with cancer on the face for years, passed peacefully away at her home in this city Tuesday evening, Jan 16, at 9 o'clock, aged 78 years 7 months and 27 days. The funeral was from her residence Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. I. A. Wilson conducting the services. She had been a resident here for 41 years." NOTE: I. A. Wilson was a local minister and on page 5 January 15, 1906, THE NEW ERA newspaper mentions: "Rev. I. A. Wilson of this city attended the Foreign Missionary Rally of the First Districk at Atchison Tuesday. He was on the program for an address ..." Their son, ANTHONY WAYNE MEYERS lived there also and according to THE VALLEY FALLS VINDICATOR newspaper of January 1, 1926, page 4, column 4 he died in Oskaloosa Dec 1925. On 31 July 1909 he married Sara Lucinda Ferguson of Valley Falls and they had 4 children there two of whom preceded there father in death, and two living ... George Lelo (Meyers or Myers?) of Valley Falls and Lily Mubella (Meyers or Myers? Who I think married John Metzger), now Mrs. John Metzger of Ozawkie. They had been members of the Christian Church for some time. It continues that Anthony Wayne Meyers (Anthony's son, my g uncle) "left to mourn his wife, one son, and one daughter, one step daughter, Lot tie Leola Steward of Ozawkie; and lists his brothers Ira of Horton, Kansas, Austin and Lum (assuming Lum is my g grandfather Christopher CoLUMbus Myers, both of Oklahoma; JEROME OF KANSAS CITY MO, and John of Columbia, etc. "Funeral services were conducted at the First Baptist Church Tuesday ... by the pastor Rev. C. W. Harvey ... songs were sung by Mrs. Lou Hauck, Miss Mellie Dornblaser, Mr. Milton Schindler, and Mrs. Fred L glE~r (that is what was emailed to me glE~r) Lot tie STEWART became Lot tie Steward WARD who died Nov. 27, 1975 wife of Ira E. WARD and was buried in Hardo Oak Cemetery located south of McLouth and east of Perry Kansas. Information was found in the "Tombstones and burials of Jefferson County, Kansas - Jefferson County Genealogical Society in Oskaloosa, Kansas. And that is all I know! I know the descendants down through C Columbus Myers, just not the ancestors or brother, sisters, etc of ANTHONY W. MEYERS. GOT ANY SUGGESTIONS OF WHAT TO DO NEXT? ... Nickie Today's Topics: 1.
