The Meriden Message Jefferson County Friday December 11, 1931 Sarah A. HOKE was born April 15, 1839 near Harrisburg, Pa., and died Nov. 30, 1931, aged 92 years, 7 months and 15 days. Soon after the close of the Civil War she married Jeremiah MILLER, a Union veteran. They moved to Kansas in 1869, and in the spring of 1870 moved to the Miller farm near Meriden where Mrs. Miller lived over 61 years. Her husband died in 1901. Mrs. Miller is survived by four children, Mrs. Edward GROENDYKE, W.L. MILLER, Harry J. MILLER, Frank P. MILLER and one grandson, all of Meriden. When a girl 16 years of age, Mrs. Miller was converted and united with the Methodist Church. She was one of the charter members of the Meriden Methodist church. She took great interest in the work of the church and this interest continued until the close of her life, though for some time she has been unable to attend services. When younger she visited and nursed the sick among her neighbors. Her passing removes one of the oldest members of the church and community. The funeral was held at the Methodist church at 2 o'clock, Wednesday afternoon, the pastor, the Rev. M.M. Murrell being in charge. Burial was in the Meriden cemetery.
