Hello Jan, If you have not had success of finding information about the "all woman" city council/mayor of Oskaloosa, you can find an article giving the details in the Oct. 1995 issue of YESTERYEARS, starting on page 7. If you don't have issues that far back, I can copy those pages and mail them to you. In response to the question of women voting--In 1859, under the Wyandotte Constitution, women could participate in school district elections and own property. When Kansas became a state in 1861, those rights remained. by 1887, women could vote in municipal elections. In 1912, women in Kansas won the right to vote in national and state elections eight years before the 19th amendment gave that right to women in all states. Hope this helps your research.
