The Oskaloosa Times Jefferson County Friday June 2, 1899 Ozawkie Item. John WYCLASS a German, who had been working for Ed SAYLER was fournd dead in his corn crib Friday. Heart disease being ascribed as the probable cause. The Modern Woodmen Lodge, of which he was a member, took charge of the remains and buried them Saturday. He carried $1,000 insurance in favor of a brother in Germany. He had no relatives in this country.
The Oskaloosa Times Friday June 2, 1899 Adolph HESSE, of McLouth, Sundayed with W.C. FOWLER and family. Hesakiah DICK, of Edgerton, Mo., will enjoy Kansas breezes with his son, G.G., this week. S.E. NEAL and wife accompanied their son Frank to Muscotah Friday, and returned Sunday. They report a pleasant trip overland. Charley LOW's little boy, less than two years old, came near being drowned last Saturday. He was playing around an old cellar which contained a couple of feet of water, and in some way lost his balance and fell in. When found by his parents he was entirely underwater except for some of his clothes. All Ozawkie Items.
I like the verb "Sundayed" in the first article about Adoph Hesse. We should revive that verb and that activity. Frank MORELLI narrowling escaped death last Thursday while monitoring corn. The horses overturned the monitor upon Frank and dragged him some distance before he succeeded in stopping them.

The Oskaloosa Times Friday May 26, 1899 Accident. Mr. LIGHTBODY, a painter who has been living in a part of Mrs. McINTOSH's house, dislocated his right hip by falling through a hole in the sidewalk Thursday night. He was out to Ralph SNYDER's to see about securing a job of painting Ralph's house, and when returning along F.E. DEDRICK's side walk, below the colored Methodist church, he fell through a hole in the walk and dislocated his hip. The accident happended abotu 7:30 in the evening, but he was not discovered until 9:15 when Tom LOGAN and Milt MINER going home, heard his cry for help.

The Oskaloosa Times Friday May 19, 1899 P.B. STANLEY has returned from Hot Springs, Ark., after an extended absence. Otto FISCHER and Billy SPALDING came up from Lawrence yesterday to see how the store was getting along. Miss Anna CARTER came up from her home near Tonganoxie today, and is visiting her sister, Mrs. Arthur McDUFFEE. H.D. HALL, who has been visiting his mother north of town for a month past, will start for his home at Cascade, Montana, in a few days. Harve JOHNSON has just received word that his son Harry, with Co. C. of the 29th Kansas Volunteers at Manila, has been shot through the arm. The wound is not serious however.

Hello Linda, Jim lives in Florida and doesn't have access to all the material that is available in the Jefferson Co. Genealogical Soc. records. However, the Gen. Soc. can be contacted directly at jcgs1979@yahoo.com By "old cemetery", I presume you make reference to the cemetery just west of Valley Falls, that is now known as "Old Pioneer" cemetery. If so, there are compiled records that are the best we have--though far from complete. I'd be happy to check them if you will mail the Gen. Soc. directly at above address. The Oskaloosa Times Jefferson County Friday May 19, 1899 J.Wm. MARSH died at his home in this city, Sunday night, after a lingering illness. He was born in California, Mo., in July, 1884, and came to Kansas in 1885 with his parents where he has lived ever since. He leaves a wife and child besides a father, two sisters and four brothers to mourn his loss. The services were conducted at the Congregational church by Rev. Cumber, of Atchison.
