    3. The Meriden Message Jefferson County Friday July 31, 1931 John Schaffer Dead. John SCHAFFR, former resident of Meriden, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. F.B. BIRMINGHAM, at Topeka last Thursday. He moved to Meriden in 1898, opening a harness shop. Ten years ago he moved to Topeka, retiring from business. His daughter, Mrs. Chas SIMONTON, formerly Lizzie Schaffer published the Meriden Ledger for several years. Funeral services were held Saturday morning and burial was in Meriden cemetery. His wife died in 1922. He is survived by three daughters and one son, six grandchildren.

Wednesday evening, July 8th, at 8:30, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Elmo TRIPP, 624 Lincoln, Topeka, a pretty wedding took place in which Miss Chrystelle DANNER and Mr. Carl SHERES were united in marriage. Only the near relatives of the bride were present. The ring ceremony was used and the ceremony was read by Elder Guy B. GATES, of Meriden. This worthy young couple have many friends in Meriden and Topeka who wish them a happy and prosperous journey through life.

    3. The Topeka State Journal Thursday August 12, 1943 Mrs. Alida Otis True. Mrs. Alida Otis TRUE, 65, of Grantville, died in Hays Wednesday following several weeks of illness. She was born June 18, 1878, in Topeka and had lived in Topeka, Perry and Grantville communities all her life. She was a member of the Methodist church of Grantville. She is survived by her husband, Fred True; one daughter, Mrs. Florence BANMAN, of Centralia; two sons, Dr. Otis True, of Hays, and J.Fred True, Jr., of Fort Scott; one sister Mrs. Bina McKIBBEN of Grantville and nine grandchildren.

    3. The Meriden Message Jefferson County Friday May 15, 1931 Sarah A. LAPPING wa born in Belvediere, Ill., December 4, 1862. She moved to Boone county, Nebraska, at the age of 10 years. She was united in marriage October 10, 1881, to James H. ALLEN. To this union were born three sons, Alfred Jesse Allen, of Detroit, Mich., Milan Arthur Allen, of Montzuma, Kansas. Forrest Chester Allen, who passed away December 10, 1923, and one daughter, Mrs. Cordie Frances SHAFFER, Topeka. Besides her husband and three surviving children she leaves on brother, one sister and two granddaughters. Mrs. Allen came with her family to Kansas in 1896 and settled in the vicinity of Meriden where they have resided continously. She was united with the Methodist Episcopal church Feb. 19, 1907, and led an active part for a few years, when failing health kept her confined to her home. She was a charter member of the Eastern Star, also a member of the Royal neighobors and Security Benefit Association. She passed away at her home Thursday morning, May 6, having been failing rapidly for the past three years. The funeral was held at the M.E. church at Meriden Sunday May 10, at 2 p.m. Burial was in Bonner Springs cemetery.

The Valley Falls New Era Jefferson County Thursday June 9, 1910 Matthew GLIEM, father of the late Ferdinand Gliem, of Atchison, died May 31, 1910, at the home of his son, John, one mile east of Arrington, of a stroke of paralysis. Mr. Gliem was in his eightieth year, and had lived on his farm near Arrington over forty-five years. He divided his time with his children, and had left the home of his daughter, Mrs. W.B. MILLER, of Muscotah, where he had been since February first, to visit with his son John, May 1st. He is survived by five children: John of Arrington, Matthew Gliem of Pottawatomie county; Mrs. W.B. MILLER of Valley Falls, and Mrs. John HERDE, of Hoyt, Kas. The funeral was held from the home of John Gliem Thursday, with services at the Congregational church at Muscotah and interment in the Muscotah cemetery. The death of Fredinand Gliem March 8 made his father hier to an estate valued at $10,000 or more. It will be recalled that some of the children feared undue influence would be brought to bear upon the old gentleman, causing him to give his property away, and proceedings were brought April 1 to have him declared insane. The trail was held April 12, when Matthew Gliem gave such evidence of a sane mind that the insanity charge was dismissed.--Atchison Globe.

    3. The Valley Falls New Era Jefferson County Thursday June 9, 1910 Death of Old Soldier. Mr. John C. SNYDER, a veteran of the Civil war, and father of Mrs. J. C. ELLIS, west of town, died at the Soldier's Home at Leavenworth last Memorial Day, aged 65 years. He fell ill while visiting his daughter here some three weeks ago and returned to the home. Mr. and Mrs. Ellis knew nothing of his death until after the burial at Ontario, Nemeha county, Wednesday of last week. Enlisting when he was only 16, Mr. Snyder served three years with an Ohio regiment in the late war. At Milan, Ohio, he attended school with the electric wizard, Thos. A. Edison.

    3. The Valley Falls New Era Jefferson County Thursday June 2, 1910 Dr. Rankin Dead. His many friends in this locality and for that matter allover the county will be surprised and pained to learn of the death of Dr. E.C. RANKIN, of McLouth. His death occurred in a hospital at Kansas City where he had gone for an operation. The funeral will be held at McLouth this (Friday) afternoon at 1:30.
