    3. The Meriden Message Friday October 30, 1931 Mr. and Mrs. Scott WARNER of Topeka visited at the S.V. ALLEN home Sunday. Arch McCOY attended the Laptad hog sale last week and purchased a purebred male hog. Mother MILLER gave a birthday dinner for her son, WIll, last Sunday, at which all the family and grandson were present. Mother Miller is in her 92nd year and gets around fine for one of that age. Adam BECKER, Elmer BECKER, and Misses Rosa and Elsie BECKER left Tuesday morning for western Kansas for a ten day visit at Garden City. Mr. and Mrs. Frank STEWART entertained at dinner Sunday, Mrs. Cora BARNES, Mrs. Rosa RICHARD, Mr. and Mrs. Grant McLucas and Miss Dorotha LASTER.

    3. The Meriden Message Jefferson County Friday October 23, 1931 Joseph Haas Dies. Joseph HAAS, 80, of Mooney Creek, died at the county farm last Wednesday, Oct. 14 and funeral services were held at Mooney Creek Catholic church last Friday morning, Oct. 6. Burial was in Mooney Creek cemetery.

    3. The Meriden Message Jefferson County Friday October 23, 1931 Mrs. Mary Kramer Dies. Mrs. Mary (Winkler) KRAMER, 74, a resident of Ozawkie community since the '70's, died last Monday evening, October 19, and will be buried this afternoon, Oct. 23, in Ozawkie cemetery. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock at the U.B. church at Ozawkie. Children surviving Mrs. Kramer are Guy Kramer, Palisade, Wash.; Otto Kramer, Bakersfield, Calif.; Howard Kramer, Glewood Springs, Col.; Ernest Kramer, Mrs. Scott METZGER, Marie and Merna Kramer, of Ozawkie.

    3. The Meriden Message Friday October 16, 1931 Ozawkie Items. Mrs. Grace NESBITT, Mrs. Fred DEPPE, Mr. Rex RAINES, and Mr. Pete RICE are attending the I.O.O.F. convention at Hays, this week. Mrs. W.R. RAINES is visiting this week with her daughter Mrs. May MICHAEL of Topeka. Mrs. Hal NEWELL gave a shower Saturday afternoon in honor of her daughter, Mrs. Harold LEONARD. Many nice gifts were received and a large number attended. Miss Barbara ROLIN of Denison visited with Mrs. Oscar OWENS last week. Mrs. Mollie KRAMER is very ill at this writing.

The Meriden Message Jefferson County Friday October 16, 1931 David Barry, who has been ill for several months, did not rally from the last operation, as it was hoped he might do, and died Wednesday morning. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the M.E. church. Mr. Barry was born in Enders, Pa., May 13, 1860, and had lived near Meriden since coming to Kansas in 1891. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary Barry; by five sons, Harry and Herbert, Buhl, Ida., Harvey and Chester, Meriden, Calvin of Topeka; and by five daughters, Mrs. Milton MILLER, Williamsport, Pa., Mrs. C.A. GARLAND, Buhl, Mrs. Allen JUDD, West Hampton, R.I., Miss Elda Barry, Brindaban, India, Miss Minnie Barry, Winfield, Kans.

    3. The Meriden Message Jefferson County Friday October 16, 1931 Mrs. J.B. DEEVER died at her home in Topeka, Sunday night. Rev. Mr. Deever was pastor here several years ago. She was the mother of four sons, three preachers and one doctor, and one daughter.

The Meriden Message Jefferson County Friday October 16, 1931 John Rudolph KIENTZ was born May 17, 1855, near Buffalo, N.Y., and departed this life at his home near Ozawkie, Kansas, Oct. 9, 1931, at the age of 76 years. When he was six years old he came to Kansas with his parents, where they settled on a farm near the present home. On Feb. 17, 1885, he was united in marriage to Hiland Mary SHELDON, and to this union was born five children; Chester R. Kientz of Denver, Col.; Mrs. Ray WILLETTE of Kansas City, Kans.; Mrs. Alva KEIM of Ozawkie, and Miss Lura Kientz and Miss Alberta Kientz of the home address. Besides his widow and children, Mr. Kientz is survived by eight brothers and sisters. Those in the immediate vicinity being, Mr. Charles Kientz of Manhattan, Kans., Mrs. Joe CRANDALL, of Topeka, and Mrs. Will LONG, of Topeka. Mr. Kientz was a member of the German Lutheran Church, a devoted husband and kind father. He was a good citizen and a helpful neighbor and made many friends in the seventy years he resided in this community. Funeral services were held from the home Oct. 10. The beautiful floral offering, and the large number in attendance, were evidence of the high esteem in which our brother was held by neighbors and friends. Interment was made in the Ozawkie cemetery.

"Uncle Billy" COPPINGER, 78, pioneer citizen of Jefferson county, well-known in this section and prominent among early day residents, died at his home in Winchester Wednesday night, Sept. 30. Funeral services will be held at the Christian church Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with Rev. George Gaughran officiating. Masonic services will be held at the cemetery.

    3. The Meriden Message Jefferson County Friday October 2, 1931 Mrs. Cornelia Kenton Dies. Mrs. Cornelia KENTON, 73, mother of Mrs. C.E. BUCKLEY, of Winchester, died at the home of her daughter last Sunday morning, Sept. 27. Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with Rev. C.L. Ruhlen, Methodist pastor, in charge.

The Meriden Message Jefferson County Friday September 25, 1931 Henry Clay BAYNE, 57, died last Friday at his home, 3.5. miles southeast of Williamstown following an illness of but two hours, with acute indigestion. Burial was on Saturday in the family lot ont he farm, where Mr. Bayne was born and spent his life. Services were conducted by Rev. Mr. Holderfield, of Lawrence. Deceased is survived by his wife. His father W.G. BAYNE, was sheriff of Jefferson county in 1879.

    3. The Meriden Message Friday September 25, 1931 Mr. and Mrs. A.B. WARNER and family were dinner guests Sunday of their Grandmother CRIGGER and family. Word was received from Mr. and Mrs. Sed COOK that they are at home in California. They visited his brother Roy Cook, in New Mexico, on their way. Mrs. Ray CROWLEY is quite sick at this writing. Miss Leonice WELLS is visiting friends and relatives in Topeka. Harold BECKER of Topeka called on H.F. BINNEY, Friday afternoon and looked over the old home farm. Harold is working with the Fidelity Security Company, where he has been for the past two years. Mrs. C. C. BROOKS celebrated her birthday anniversary with a family dinner Sunday.

    3. The Meriden Message Jefferson County Friday September 25, 1931 Small Girl Eats Poison and Dies. Dorothy STANLEY, three-year-old daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. George Stanley, found some medicine in the form of pills and ate them Tuesday evening, and became very ill. They immediately brought her to John KERR's drugstore for an antidote but she died in a short time. The funeral will be held at the C.B. Church Friday afternoon.

MILLER, superintendent of Valley Falls schools, was elected president of the superintendents association for the current school year at the first meeting of the group. He succeeds C.E. LAWSON of Perry. R.T. WALKER, superintendent at Winchester, was reelected secretary-treasurer, a position which he has filled for several years.

    3. The Meriden Message Jefferson County Friday September 18, 1931 Sheriff Conrad H. Aull Is Married Last Saturday. Conrad H. AULL, sheriff of Jefferson county, and Miss Marie TOSH, of Valley Falls, were married at Leavenworth last Saturday, September 12. The ceremony was performed by Judge Wettig, long-time friend of the groom's at the courthouse. The couple returned to Oskaloosa Wednesday and will live in the residence which Mr. Aull has occupied. Mrs. Aull is the daughter of Henry Tosh and Mrs. Mary Tosh, of Valley Falls. Sheriff Aull is well-known over Jefferson county. Before taking office he lived south of McLouth on a farm in Sarcoxie township.

The Meriden Message Jefferson County Friday September 11, 1931 Ralph Austin NOEL was born Nov. 6, 1916, at Thayer, Kansas, and died Aug. 31, 1921, at his home near Rock Creek, aged 14 years, nine months. He was the victim of a stroke of lightning. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Noel, one brother, Richard, and by three sisters, Amie, Isa and Marjorie. Ralph graduated from the grade school last spring and intended to enter high school this fall. He was a member of the St. Paul class of the U.B. church, and active in church work among the younger group. Held in high esteem throughout the community. Ralph was a genial lad, a good and obedient son and a kind brother. Funeral services were held in the U.B. church at Rock Creek and burial was in Valley Falls cemetery.
