Holton.--Henry PURTZER, 95, Netawaka, died here Tuesday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. W.O. GRUNDEMAN, after a long illness. He was born Dec. 24, 1869, at Evanston, Ind. He was a blacksmith at Netawaka from 1896 until 1953 when he retired. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church at Netawaka. Survivors include two other daughters, Mrs. Alma Pinney, Salina, and Mrs. Charlotte BEATY, Dallas, Tex.; two sons, Clarence Purtzer, Kansas City, Mo., and Arnlod Purtzer, Norton; a sister, Mrs. Mary MUELLER, Sedalia, Mo.; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church at Netawaka with burial in Netawaka Cemetery. Mercer Funeral Home at Holton is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. and Mrs. Clyde HASTINGS entertained with a delightful dinner party Thanksgiving Day. Covers were laid for the following guests: Mr. and Mrs. Jas.     3. The last info I can find on John and his family is the 1880 census in Osawakie, Jefferson co., Kansas. Susan, his wife was the daughter of Abraham May and sometimes was called Susanna. John, born in Indiana, Susan, born in NC, but both were raised and married in Indiana. In 1880, two of their children are still living at home.     3. The Meriden Message Jefferson County Friday November 27, 1931 Steve Talcott Is Dead. Steve TALCOTT, 70, long-time resident of Winchester died at his home Thursday night of last week, Nov. 12, and funeral services were held at the Methodist church, Winchester, on Saturday, with the Rev. C.L. Ruhlen in charge. Burial was in Wise cemetery. Mr. Talcott was born in Winchester in early days, and his lifelong residence there made him many friends over Jefferson county. His health failed last spring and he gave up active management of the restaurant which he has operated in Winchester for years. At one time Steve Talcott was a famous jockey and rode winners on many circuits. He has been mayor of Winchester and lately was police judge of the city. He is survived by his wife, a sister, Mrs. May Oliphant, of Denver, Colo., and a stepson, Frank PRIEST of Kansas.

Miss Flaris KUNTZ is teachiing in her place. Mrs. Homer PUDERBAUGH is spending a week of vacation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Puderbaugh and son Homer, Jr. Mr. and Mrs. Mell METZGER and family were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Will MEYERS.     3. The Meriden Message Jefferson County Friday November 13, 1931 Mrs. Whitlock Dead. Mrs. Elizabeth WHITLOCK, 62, died at Topeka hospital Monday after an illness of four months. Mrs. Whitlock was born October 23, 1869, in Marietta, O., and came to Shawnee county with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Jacob DAUBER, in 1878. She had made her home in Topeka for the last eight years. She was a member of the German Lutheran church. She is survived by two sons, Fred Whitlock, Topeka, Sterling Whitlock, Meriden; a daughter, Mrs. Cecil ROWE, Lyons; four sisters, Mrs. Catherine KOENITZER and Mrs. H.N. SWICKARD, Meriden; Mrs. Wallace GRIFFITH, Topeka; Mrs. Charles HOWE, Hoyt; two brothers, Jacob and Fred DAUBER, Meriden; and seven grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at Meriden Methodist church, in charge of Rev. H.K. Evans. Burial in the Meriden cemetery.

Ira WALTERS who taught school at Milligan forty years ago was calling in this vicinity last Sunday. He is a preacher now in Denver. Mr. and Mrs. Frank STEWART and Mrs. Rosa RICHARD visitied Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Grant McLUCAS.

    3. The Meriden Message Jefferson County Friday November 20, 1931 Bert Hinchman An Accident Victim. Leav. Times--13th. Bert HINCHMAN, about 50 years of age, a former resident of Winchester, was accidently killed Wednesday while on a deer hunt in Texas, friends in Jefferson county, have been notified. Details of the accident are lacking. Mr. Hinchman was born and reared at Winchester, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Cary Hinchman, pioneers. For a number of years he was owner of telephone exchanges at Nortonville and Valley Falls, leaving the latter place a few years ago for Brenham, Tex. Burial will be in the Texas town. Aside from his widow, Mr. Hinchman is survived by his brothers, Walter Hinchman, Kansas City; Eddie Hinchman, Lawrence, Kas.; sisters, Mrs. Edward LEMON, Lawrence, and Mrs. O.O. CLARK, Junction City.
