    2. Jim Laird
    3. The McLouth Times Jefferson County Friday December 3, 1909 John Leslie GOUCHER, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Goucher, was born on a farm near McLouth, Kansas, August 23, 1899, died in Oskaloosa, Kansas, Nov. 30, 1909, age 10 years, 3 months and 7 days. His death was caused by an injury inflicted by a rusty nail which developed into lock-jaw. The family moved to McLouth in 1903 and to Oskaloosa in the Spring of 1909. Leslie was a home-loving boy, his mother being his constant companion. She taught him many bible lessons in which he was much interested and which he always remembered. Only four days before his death he asked his mother to read him the story of John 3:16. When she finished he said, "Mamma, I believe it all, and when I die I will go there." His life here was short but dear to those about him. He has gone out into the real life, where his power and faculties will be fully developed while he awaits the coming of loved ones.

    1. [KSJEFFER] Marriage: BOWMAN--FOSTER
    2. Jim Laird
    3. The McLouth Times Jefferson County Friday December 3, 1909 Bowman--Foster. At high noon Thursday, Thanksgiving day, at the home of bride, Mr. and Mrs. E.S. Bowman, was celebrated the marriage of their daughter, Miss Vera and J.B. FOSTER of Eldorado, Kansas. The ceremony was performed by Rev. E.E. McAferty in the presence of the immediate family and a few friends. The bride wore white Paris muslin princess gown beautifully trimmed in French Val lace and carried a boquet of bride's roses. The house was prettily decorated with cut flowers and ferns. After the ceremony and congratulations, all present repaired to the dining room and enjoyed a most sumptious turkey dinner. McLouth has been the home of the bride all her life. Here she grew to beautiful womanhood and in her modest way made warm friends with all whom she associated. This community's loss of this jewell will not soon be forgotten, and the gain to the young Kansan and the community to which he takes her will be most fortunate. Mr. and Mrs. Foster will reside in Eldorado, Kansas where he is one of the hustling young business men of that place. They left on the evening train for a few days' trip before going to their home. The out of town guests were Mr. and Mrs. Fred BOWMAN of Eldorado, Kans., Mr. and Mrs. Matt BOWMAN and Mrs. Harry JONES of Tonganoxie, Kans., and Mrs. Woods of Kansas City, Mo.

Marker's horse to deliver some goods. The weather was cool and the horse was feeling frisky. As a result the animal kicked over the dash board. Mr. Pyle was struck on the knee of his right leg and suffered considerable pain. He had a narrow escape from having his leg broken. 1. [KSJEFFER] L.J.WILLITS
    2. Jim Laird
    3. The McLouth Times Friday November 19, 1909 L.J. WILLITS of near McLouth, is one of those thrifty farmers who have, in a measure, solved the labor question on the farm. Mr. Willits is an habitual early riser and it is not unfrequent that he is out in his field by lantern light during the fall and early winter days. A load of corn, amounting to 34 or 40 bushels is often gathered by Mr. Willits before breakfast. Thus it is seen that Mr. Willits is not wholly at the mercy of hired help in caring for his crops. Instead of fooling away his time with an automobile or some other hobby he is industriously engaged in garnering his crops.

    1. [KSJEFFER] Marriage: EDMONDS--BLACK
    2. Jim Laird
    3. The McLouth Times Jefferson County Friday November 12, 1909 Edmonds--Black Wedding. At the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. James BLACK, at high noon, Nov. 3, Mr. Ralph EDMONDS was united in marriage to Miss Emma BLACK. The ceremony was conducted by Rev. E. E. McAferty in the presence of many friends and relatives. The bride's dress was white imported mohair trimmed in Valenciennes lace insertion. The groom was dressed in conventional black. The house was beautifully decorated. They stood beneath an arch of pink and white. After the ceremony which made them one the guests were invited to dinner which was a great feast. Mr. and Mrs. Black surely spared neither labor or money to make it luxurious. Then all the guests were invited to an infare the next day at Uncle Thos. Edmonds'. It was a splendid effort as to arrangement and cooking skill. Well, we simply couldn't taste all of the good things at either of these dinners. The Edmonds family is well known in this county, being among the first settlers. Through honest toil and frugality have succeeded in building up homes that are a credit to the community. Mr. Black is one of our prosperous farmers, living three miles northeast of McLouth. He has a beautiful home which represents the combined efforts of his family. So the happy couple have the splendid heritage of an honest purpose in life. Besides the many useful presents they received quite a considerable cash amount. They will live on a farm north of Thos. Edmonds home place. It is the confident belief of the community that they will build up a home of peace and plenty. May a kind providence smile upon them.
