The Valley Falls New Era Jefferson County Thursday July 28, 1910 Miss Mabel FARIS of this place and Andrew PATTERSON of Fort Morgan, Colo., were married at Evans, Colorado last week. Mr. Patterson, who formerly lived at Morning Sun, Iowa, visited here last winter. They will locate on a farm near Ft. Morgan, Colorado.
The Valley Falls New Era Thursday July 28, 1910 Will and Henry MILLER visited Monday at Robt. MILLER's. (Denison.) Bro. HUGG and family leave today for a vacation at Atlantic City, New Jersey. He will be gone at least a month, possibly longer.(Dension.) C.Z. MONTGOMERY had a light stroke of paralysis Monday morning in twon, but seems to be recovering. (Dension.) Robt. REID's house is being torn down this week preparatory to building a new one. Tom GARDINER was also in Valley Falls last week arranging for a new 10-room house which he will have built. (Denison.)

The Valley Falls New Era Thursday July 21, 1910 Perry Items. J.W. COLLEY was in Oskaloosa on business last week. Thos. LEE sold three new wagons Tuesday of last week. John MORGAN was up from Lawrence Tuesday of last week. James SAMPLE and son of Craig, Mo., visited relatives here last week. Shad MICHAEL threshed his big field of wheat south of the elevator this week. The yield was good and the quality fine and the straw is bright and clean. Mrs. Viola BALDWIN and daughter of Quincy, Mo., visited her father, L.H. BOUTON, last week.
The Valley Falls New Era Thursday July 21, 1910 Nearly Drowned. Capt. EVANS informs us that his daughter, Pearl, Mrs. SWIFT and Mr. and Mrs. CLOUD, came near drowning in an Indiana lake. They were fishing from a boat anchored to a bridge, when the vessel was upset by Cloud's boy falling from the bridge into the boat, throwing them into water forty feet deep. Hanging onto the boat in water up to their necks they realized the great need of help. It came in the person of two small boys in another boat and they were quickly rescued from the perilious position. It was a narrow escape. They walked one and a half miles in their wet clothes to their auto and back seventeen miles away.

The Valley Falls New Era Jefferson County Thursday July 21, 1910 Threshing Machines Humming. All the mail carriers, but one reported the starting of threshing machines on their routes Monday. Ben GRIFFIN on route one did not see a thresher on his way. Geo. McCRACKEN on route two noticed John ALLEN threshing for himself. Roy JACKSON on route three found the GREEN Bros. threshing for themselves. Henry McCOY on route four observed Frank SCHULTZ threshing for Geo. THOMPSON. Sample TRIMBLE on route five discovered two machines going. OWENS and MILLER separating for STICE, and IRWIN threshing a fine field of wheat for E.C. STEWART.
The Valley Falls New Era Thursday July 21, 1910 A.W. LAIRD, of west of town, enjoyed a visit from two of his brothers, last week, from Oklahoma. P.E. Laird has been employed as a teacher in the Southwestern Oklahoma Normal, at Durant, and his brother F.P. has been teaching in the state as well. Mr. Laird says wages for teachers are much better in the new state than here, and the buildings are much more pretentious as well. He says the cotton prospect there is not so good as common on account of the dry weather. Miss Una SCRANTON, who with her sister, Helen, has been visiting her aunt, Mrs. Geo. McNORTON and other relatives, was called home to Cleveland, Ohio, Tuesday, owing to the serious illness of her brother-in-law, Ed. BAILEY, subject to an operation for appendicitis. Miss Helen will remain until September first, the limit of their intended visit, the guest of her cousins, Mrs. E.F. WETTIG and Mrs. Will THOMPSON, being indisposed and taking osteopathic treatment.
The Valley Falls New Era Thursday July 14, 1910 Wednesday, July 6th, 1910, was the occasion of a happy gathering at the home of Jack BATES when all of his children packed up their dinner and went in to spend the day and have a family reunion--a thing which occured for the first time in nineteen years, it being that long since they had all been together at one time. Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. Al. WHITE and daughter, Zella, and sons, Harold and Ralph; Mr. and Mrs. Will PREECE and daughters, Ellen and Edith; Mr. and Mrs. O.G. SLAWSON and son, Bryon; Mrs. Walter METZGER and son, Edson; Mr. and Mrs. Ted BATES and daughters, Leila and Floy, and son, Donald; Mr. and Mrs. Walter BATES; George PREECE and son, Charlie; Jack ROBINSON and Miss Rosie BELL.

The Valley Falls New Era Thursday July 14, 1910 Henry MILLER and his daughter, Henrietta, arrvied Monday from Holden, Mo., to visit a coupel week with his aged parents, Mr. and Mrs. Zach MILLER and look around with a view of relocating here. He was in California but left there last May, not liking it out there. His wife and son are trying to stay it out a year. He has been helping his son-in-law farm near Holden and thinks Kansas is good enough for him. Mrs. John MILLER who has been suffering with a complication of diseases is very low. Mrs. Joe SLOOP and son of Nortonville way visited her mother, Mrs. M.A.C. WILLIAMS a few days this week. Mrs. Mary WILLIAMS of Halls, Mo., with whom her niece, Mrs. DELK, visited last week came home with here last Saturday and visited until Monday with her brother, Jas. HUFF, and family.
The Valley Falls New Era Jefferson County Thursday July 14, 1910 Death of Mrs. Henry Faulk. Mrs. Henry FAULK died at her home at Larkinburg, Ks., July 12, 1910, aged 48 years. Carrie SCHADT was married at Valley Falls, 25 years ago to Henry FAULK. To them five daughters were born all of whom survive the mother. The cause of her death was cancer of the stomach. The funeral was held from the Christian church at Larkingburg Wednesday and burial in the cemetery near by.
The Valley Falls New Era Thursday July 14, 1910 Will H. McCOY and wife returned Wednesday from Kansas City where they visited his brother, Al. McCoy two or three days. Al. has been there six months taking electrical treatment for partial paralysis of his legs; but is improving. Miss Blanche WILHELM and Miss Hattie MILLER of Kansas City were the guests of Mr. Mel LEGLER this week. Miss Rose Legler entertained a few of her friends at dinner Tuesday evening, complimentary to the visitors after a picnic at Cedar Falls, followed by a line party to the Electric theatre. Mr. and Mrs. A.A. CARSON of Denver, spent a few days with T.R. McCREA. Mrs. Carson and Mrs. McCrea are sisters.
The Valley Falls New Era Thursday July 14, 1910 A marriage license was issued in Kansas City, Kansas to Wm. L. BLACK of Valley Falls and Irene MINOR of Holton, Tuesday. He was a section foreman here last winter, and is the eldest son of Mrs. SKILLMAN of this city. But for the unexpected appearance of a lost son of Mr. WILSON, deceased, in Nebraska, recently, the Black children would have received a handsome fortune. At it is they got a small part of it.
The Topeka Capital-Journal Sunday April 4, 1965 Ellen B. Harding. McLouth.--Mrs. Ellen B. HARDING, 77, McLouth, died Saturday at a nursing home here. She was born Feb. 2, 1888 at Hosington. She lived at McLouth from 1902 to 1924 when she moved to McAllen, Tex. She returned to McLouth in 1932. She was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church at McLouth. Survivors include her husband, who is in a nursing home in Oskaloosa; four daughters, Mrs. Evelyn BOWLEARN, Englin Air Force Base, Fla., Ethleyn HARDING, San Antonio, Tex., Freda HARDING, Mission, and Mrs. Sylvia DAVIS, Beaumont, Tex.; three granddaughters and one great-grandson. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Evangelical United Brethren Church at McLouth with burial in McLouth Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart Fund. Bradford Funeral Home at McLouth is in charge of arrangements.

The Valley Falls New Era Thursday July 7, 1910 While planing a felloe rim in his shop Thursday morning, Sam ALLEN got a blow on his forehead cutting a gash that required several stitches to close. Dr. M.F. MARKS who dressed the wound thinks the frontal bone was slightly fractured. The blow was caused by the rim catching on the saw attached to the same mandrel with the planer. Sam was not knocked down and out though the stroke was a hard one.
The Valley Falls New Era Jefferson County Thursday July 7, 1910 Died--McCoy. John McCOY, died in Franklin county, Ohio, June 19, 1910 after a lingering illness in his 87th year, on the farm on which he located in 1849. He was the father of Will H. McCOY of Valley Falls and Al McCOY now at Emporia. He served three years in the 95th Ohio regiment in the Civil war, and the record of his life as a soldier is cherished. He was married three times, and is survived by a widow, children and many grandchildren. He was of the Methodist faith since early manhood.

Those from abroad who attended the funeral were Mr. NINCEHELSER and family, Mr. WENDORF and wife and George RILEY of Oskaloosa, besides relatives from Kansas City, Leavenworth and Edgerton, Missouri.
