    3. The Valley Falls New Era Jefferson County Thursday September 16, 1909 Mrs. J.F. DENNELER died suddenly Tuesday night at her home east of town. The funeral was held at the home Thursday, Rev. Johnson conducting the services. Her sisters, Mrs. P.W. BRAIDWOOD of Weir City, Mrs. G.W. FLYNN, of Kansas City, and Mrs. T.H. EDMONDS, husband and daughter of Lawrence attended the funeral.

Ed COOK has gone to Grand Island, Nebraska, where he will attend school. Ivo DUNN and family of Oskaloosa visited Mrs. WILSON, her mother, last week. Ms. MARTIN, of Amsterdam, Mo., visited Mrs. A.L. McDERMOND last week. Miss Alice and Mary MARTIN of Kansas City visited Mrs. Ross GIBSON. Nick SLOOP and family of Valley Falls visited his sister, Mrs. Alice McDERMOND, Friday. Their daughter, Miss Geneva remained till Saturday evening.

    3. The Valley Falls New Era Thursday September 16, 1909 Pacific Items. Mr. and Mrs. Will SEAVERS spent the 5th with his brother James Seavers and family. Miss Minnie HOSLER of Nortonville was the guest of her friend Miss Louise HALL Sunday. Eva and Blanche BATES were the guests of Misses Nellie and Mable CURTIS last Friday. Amos GRIFFIN who has been seriously sick at his home seems to very little better at this writing. Mrs. Calvin SLOOP spent one day last week with her cousin, Miss Lela COPPINGER of Winchester. Mrs. Marian SMITH spent last Saturday with her sister-in-law, Mrs. W. F. DANIELS in Valley Falls. Mr. and Mrs. KING of near Nortonville took Sunday dinner with thier daughters Mrs. James SEAVERS and family. Miss Geneva SLOOP spent Monday with her brother Calvin and wife and assisted Mrs. S. COOK for threshers. Last week, while Walter and Charley GREEN were threshing north of Prairie Hall, Walter met with what might have been a serious accident. Walter while working around the engine got his arm in a wheel and was badly bruised, but is now able to be with the machine again. James and Orville LEIGAN were several days last week at the home of Will BRITTEN. Mr. Britten is very low with abscess of the lungs and consumption but is somewhat better as we go to press, and hope he continues getting better. We received a card last week from Miss Ellen BOYLE who left a week ago for Redfield. She is Principal of the High School there and says she likes her school fine. Her sister, Grace teaches at Perry, where she taught last year. Mrs. James LEIGAN visited her mother, Mrs. D.N. ERTEL and sisters, Misses Alice and Minnie who have returned home from Jewell County one day last week. Mr. and Mrs. J.W. FRAZIER and sons Omer and Roy, were the guests of Mrs. Fraziers grandparents, John COOLING and wife, the 12th. Miss Frances BATES has returned to her home at Chanute after spending several days with her cousin, Mrs. Mel HOUSTON. Mr. and Mrs. A.A. GRIFFIN spent last Wednesday with her daughter, Mrs. James MILLER and family near Nortonville.

Elmer SMITH and family were in Leavenworth Sunday. Miss Alice MARTIN of Kansas City is visiting Mrs. Ross GIBSON. Mr. and Mrs. HENDERSON of Potter are visiting the R.C. YOUNG's. Mrs. Mary MILLER has gone to Roachdale, Indiana, for a visit. Mrs. B. G. JEFFRIES and Mrs. L.M. MEREDITH were in Leavenworth Saturday. Mrs. MILLER, Mrs. HIRSCHBERG of Topeka, and Mr. MILLER of Kansas City are visiting Rev. ZIMMERMAN and wife. Miss Eva CURRY, daughter of F.N. Curry was married at the home of her mother Wednesday evening to Mr. STEFFEY of Ozawkie.

    3. The Valley Falls New Era Thursday September 9, 1909 Center Items. Miss Ada ROBINSON spent a few days last week with Mrs. Fred SLOOP. W.H. McCOY's brother-in-law of Kansas City visited him Wednesday of last week. Miss Edna HUKLE of Valley Falls visited a few days last week with Miss Geneva SLOOP. Mrs. Luther HOSLER and children and Miss Stella EDWARDS are visiting relatives in Chicago. Mr. and Mrs. Nick SLOOP, who have been visiting in Colorado returned home Monday night. Fred SLOOP returned from Linden where he has been visiting his sister, Wednesday evening. Walter GRIFFIN and wife, who have been visiting relatives here, left for Colorado Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest LEWIS made a business trip to Meriden Monday of last week, returning Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest LEWIS went to Meriden Tuesday of this week and while there purchased a fine farm near Meriden. Jesse MILLER and daughers, Miss Jessie Miller and Mrs. James WILLIAMS spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Clarence McCOY in Valley Falls.

    3. The Valley Falls New Era Jefferson County Thursday September 9, 1909 Miss Virgie DANNER died Monday morning of last week after a lingering illness. She was a very bright girl and had struggled hard for an education having attended Oskaloosa high school last winter. Burial was at Oskaloosa Tuesday. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community. (Lone Tree.)

    3. The Topeka Daily Capital Monday May 3, 1965 Charles Berg, 97, Meriden, Dies; Services on Tuesday. Charles BERG, 97, Meriden, died Sunday morning in a Topeka hospital. He had been ill about a month. He was born July 14, 1867 at Marietta, Ohio, and had lived at Meriden since January 1895, residing on the same farm during that time. His wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Berg, died Sept. 20, 1933. Mr. Berg was a member of the Meriden Methodist Church, and Meriden Masonic Lodge NO. 236, AF&AM. Survivors include two sons, Clarence Berg and John Berg, both of Meriden; a brother, Phillip Berg, Marietta, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Emma EPLER, Meriden, and Mrs. Mary WAGNER, Marietta, Ohio; four grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Meriden Methodist Church with burial in Meriden Cemetery. Graveside services will be conducted by the Meriden Masonic Lodge, No. 236, AF&AM. Davidson-Eslinger-Duff Funeral Home, Topeka, is in charge of arrangements.

    3. The Topeka Daily Capital Monday May 3, 1965 2 Perry Youths Hurt in Accident. Two Perry youths, injured Sunday when the motor scooter they were riding overturned, they were treated at St. Francis Hospital. Patrick WIELE, 14, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Wiele, suffered a fractured collarbone. Jim MOORE, 14, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl MOORE, received multiple abrasions on his elbow, chest and stomach. Both boys released after treatement.

    3. The Topeka Daily Capital Monday May 3, 1965 Lenora Fisher, 70, Dies; Valley Falls Rites Slated. Valley Falls--Mrs. Lenora FISHER, 70, Valley Falls, died Sunday in a Winchester hospital. She was born Jan. 5, 1895 at Wamego. Before moving to Valley Falls five years ago, she had lived in the Scranton and Topeka communities. Mrs. Fisher was a member of the Methodist Church, Westmoreland. Survivors include her husband, John Fisher, of the home; two sons, John Fisher, Jr., Olathe, and Donald Fisher, Lawrence; three daughters, Mrs. Lorena BAILY, Wichita, Mrs. Martha Lou MOORE, Rawlins, Wyo., and Mrs. Lucille STINE, Valley Center, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Valley Falls Methodist Church with burial in the Valley Falls Cemetery. Hagge Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

The funeral was held today(Thursday)conducted by the local lodge of the Odd Fellows, of which he was a member, assisted by Rev. Drake of the Congregational church.

    3. The Valley Falls New Era Thursday September 2, 1909 Double Wedding. Wednesday evening the Methodist church was beautifully decorated, the occasion being the double wedding of Mr. Albert STEWART and Miss Elsie GRIFFITTS and Mr. Harry COOK and Miss Nell GRIFFITTS, the ceremony being performed by Rev. Day, in the presence of a church full of admiring friends and relatives. At the appointed hour the bridal party entered the church preceded by Misses Josie HATFIELD, Jessie KNOUSE, Ethel FIFER, Daisy STEWART, Bertha GRIFFITTS and Mamie HIGGS, of Lyons; Melva HANN, of Admire; and Maidie HOUGH, of Wetmore, as bridesmaids, and little Misses Mildred KERR and Margaret DEAN as flower girls; the wedding march being played by Miss Ione HAMBLE. At the altar the party was met by Rev. Day, who in a most impressive and appropriate manner pronounced the ceremony that joined the lives of these couples for aye. After the ceremony at the church a reception for the families and the bridesmaids was held at the Griffitts home. The Misses Griffitts, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. W. Griffitts have lived here all their lives and are among the most popular young ladies of the city. Mr. Cook eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Fon Cook has grown to manhood here and is a young man of whom his friends have reason to be proud. Mr. Stewart, son of Mr. and Mrs. E.C. Stewart, while not having lived here so long as the others, has proven himself an exemplary yougn man and surely the wedding bells which solemnized this occasion will never cause to ring out of tune. Mr. and Mrs. Stewart go to Baldwin, where Mr. Stewart has two more years in school to prepare himself for the ministry; and Mr. and Mrs. Cook will go to Kansas City where Mr. Cook will graduate next year inthe Kansas City Dental College. May joy, long life, and prosperity be their lot is the wish of all their friends, in which wish this paper joins.

Freddie SAUNDERS was kicked by horse Saturday and quite severely injured, Martin THOMPSON was also struck at the same time but not seriously hurt.

Mrs. James ROGERS who has been on the sick list for some time is so much improved as to be able to be up again. A.W. YOUNG of near Dunavant and Alex DENTON and son of Science Hill, Ky., took dinner with Wesley ROBINSON, Monday. Mrs. Fred SLOOP returned home Saturday evening from a visit to her sister. Fred Sloop left Monday to visit his sister at Linden.

    3. The Topeka Daily Capital Saturday May 1, 1965 Enda Meredith. Valley Falls.--Mrs. Edna MEREDITH, 82, Valley Falls, died Friday in a Winchester hospital after a long illness. She was born July 24, 1882 on a farm northwest of Valley Falls. She had lived all her life in this community. Her husband, James Meredith, died Nov. 7, 1957. Survivors include a son, Orval Meredith, of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Vera WELBORN, Valley Falls, and Mrs. Iola ARMSTEAD, Ozawkie; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in First Christian Church here with burial in Valley Falls Cemetery. Hagge Funeral Home, Valley Falls, is in charge of arrangements.
