    3. The McLouth Times Jefferson County Friday September 23, 1949 John HOFMANN, 78, a native of Oskaloosa, died at his home there on Sunday, September 18. For many years he had operated a store in Oskaloosa and later was in business at Grove, Kansas before returning to Oskaloosa about a year ago.

    3. The McLouth Times Jefferson County Friday September 16, 1949 William Perry Moore. William Perry MOORE, son of J.D. and Susan Moore, was born in Holmes County, Ohio, May 8, 1855. He passed away Sept. 8, 1949, at the age of 94 years and 4 months. At the age of three, he moved with his parents to Leavenworth County, Kas. where he spent the rest of his life. He was married to Josephine Lillis STEWART Nov. 18, 1876 and to this union were born 10 children, 6 of them preceding him in death. Mrs. Moore preceded him Oct. 9, 1942. Surviving him are one daughter, Mrs. Harry TROWER of Manhattan, Kans., and three sons, Lawrence Moore, of Seneca, Kans., Frank Moore, McLouth, Kans., and Edward Moore of Leavenworth, Kans. He had 26 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. One sister, Mrs. Sarah CHRISTY of Kansas City, Kans. He was one of the oldest pioneers of Leavenworth County and told his children how he used to plow with oxen and teamed to the prison. For many years he was road overseer. He was always interesting in the welfare of his friends and neighbors. He was a membr of the Baptist church in McLouth, Kansas. The funeral was held Sunday at the Baptist church with Rev. Jones of Easton officiating. Miss Virginia Seymore of Jarbolo sang, accompanied by Mrs. Nellie Scott. Burial was in Eagle Cemetery. Bradford's Funeral Home was in charge.

    3. The McLouth Times Friday September 16, 1949 Aunt Thedie JONES Fell Monday and cut her wrist and had to have four stitches taken. Miss Edna Mae DICK, Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. and Mrs. Walter RESSMEYER were weekend guests of their father, Mr. A.M. DICK and Mr. Ed. DARK. Mr. and Mrs. Russell WILLIAMS of Yakima, Washington spent Wednesday evening and Thursday at the Chester ZOOK home. Pfc. James A. SHELDON, U.S. Marine Corps, of San Diego, California, who is on a 10 day furlough arrived Monday to spend a few days with his Grandmother, Mrs. Joanna SHELDON.

KIMMELL of Topeka visited Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. L.H. KIMMELL and Doris. Word has been received of the new address of Mrs. Mable EDMONDS. She has moved from 1348 Mulvane to 1521 Tyler,Topeka. Mr. and Mrs. Ovral SPARKS of Des Moines, Iowa, and Mrs. Lulu SPARKS of Lawrence, visited at the W.S. PYLE home several days last week. Mr. Emitt THOMPSON was admitted to the University of Kansas hospital last Thursday. Mr. Thompson underwent an operation Monday morning.

Mrs. Henry Etta JOHNSON went by bus to Leavenworth Saturday evening to the home of her daughter, and then on Sunday Mrs. JOHNSON, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence NORRIS and son, Wayne went to Kansas City, Mo., to see Mrs. Johnson's other daughter, Mrs. Joseph WHITE and family.

    3. The McLouth Times Friday August 19, 1949 North of McLouth items. Mr. and Mrs. Claude KIMMEL visited at Lawrence Memorial Hospital Monday evening with Mrs. Robert TURNER and infant daughter. They report the young lady has been named Karen Sue. Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer KIMMEL drove to Lawrence Friday evening to visit with his sister, Mrs. Robert TURNER and infant daughter, Karen Sue, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Claude KIMMEL called on Mr. and Mrs. J.D. EVERETT of the Hebron neighborhood, Monday afternoon. The Everett's are moving Tueday to Hatfield GREEN where he is principal of the schools for the coming year. Miss Lois SHELDON spent the weekend with her mother, Mrs. Joanna SHELDON.(McLouth.) Mrs. Annie STEEPER returned to her home in Lawrence Thursday after spending a week with relatives. (McLouth.)

    3. The McLouth Times Friday August 19, 1949 Wellman--Woodstock items. Misses Margaret and Marie WELLMAN of this community and Leland WELLMAN of Tibbott, are spending a few days this week at the home of their uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Frank YOUNG and daughters of Holton, Kans. Mrs. J.W. FOX returned to her home Monday after being a patient at Lawrence Memorial hospital for several days. Friends here were so sorry to hear that Mr. and Mrs. W.H. RICE of Lawrence, both of whom are in the Lawrence Memorial hospital. Mrs. Rice, who suffered a stroke Wednesday morning, Mr. Rice who has been a patient at the hospital a week ago is suffering from a stomach ailment. Neither can have visitors. Their daughter, Mrs. Blackwell SMITH of Princeton, N.J., also their sons, William A. RICE and Richard Rice of Chicago, were called her by the illness of their parents.

    3. The McLouth Times Friday August 19, 1949 Birthday Party. Dr. and Mrs. Carl CARTER entertained with a birthday part for their grandaughter, Marcia Carol, on Wednesday, Aug 10. There were about forty-five little guests, who sang and played games on the lawn, under the supervision of Miss Doris KIMMEL and Miss Caroline SHOEMAKER. Assisting hostesses were Mrs. Ammon ASHWORTH, Mrs. Sam SIPE, Mrs. Robert SNOOK, and Mrs. Eric STEEPER.

    3. The McLouth Times Friday August 19, 1949 Kimmel--Sampson Engagement Annoucned. Mr. Ray D. KIMMEL announces the engagement of his daugther, Elizabeth Ann to Mr. Willard SAMPSON of Wauseon, Ohio. Miss Kimmel is a graduate of the McLouth High School and of McPherson College, McPherson, Kansas. After the completion of her college work, she spent several months doing missionary work among the natives of Porta Rica, in a church of the Brethren camp. Since her return to the States, she has made further study at Manchester College, North Manchester, Ohio., where is is amking her present home with her brother, William. Betty Ann plans to teach there this winter. Mr. Sampson was graduated from the Manchester College this year, and is prepared to teach mathmatics and science. The wedding is planned for the early part of next summer.

    3. The McLouth Times Friday August 19, 1949 Lt. Don Kimmel Commissioned In Guard. The Nebraska Air National Guard has commissioned Don C. KIMMEL, 30, 645 North Thirtieth street, as a second lieutenant. Lt. Kimmel, who was formerly an assistant in the 173rd fighter squadron, is the first enlisted man to be commissioned in the Nebraska air guard. Under guard regulations an enlisted man having good qualities of leadership, obtaining the recommendation of a senior officer, passing a test for a commission given by the regular army, and gaining approval of an examining board of officers, may be commissioned. Lt. Kimmel's commission became effective July 31 but must be given final approval by the National Guard bureau in Washington. The officer enlisted in the air guard in December, 1946, and has had a perfect attendance record. Since March as a commissioned officer, he has had charge of the basic training for all new members. During the war Lt. Kimmel served at a boatswain's mate second class in the United State Coast Guard from March 1942 until October 1945. The greater part of his service was aboard the cutter U.S.S. Sweetgum. Taken from Lincoln, Nebraska Star. Lt. Kimmel is the son of former Probate Judge and Mrs. Claude Kimmel. He was graduated last January from the University of Nebraska, and is employed as first salesman with the Ford agency in Lincoln.

    3. The McLouth Times Jefferson County Friday August 12, 1949 Mrs. Olive B. Rankin. Mrs. Olive B. RANKIN, 82 years of age, passed away Friday evening, July 29, at the home of her son, M.J. Rankin, 911 Highland. She was born in Terre Haute, Ind., Sept 16, 1866. Mrs. Rankin moved to Topeka with her parents when she was two years of age and was a resident there for most of her life, except for her residence in McLouth. Other survivors include the son, mentioned, include one daughter, Mrs. Maude R. JONES, of Wichita, one son, Charles L. RANKIN, Topeka, two brothers, Orin B. LLOYD, Libertal and S.E. Lloyd, Wichita, ten grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. The funeral was held Monday August 1, at the Evangelical United Brethren Church, McLouth, at 2:30 . Services were conducted by the pastor, R.C. Russell. The music was furnished by Miss Doris KIMMEL and Mr. E.C. STEEPER, with Mrs. B.R. UMHOLTZ accompanying. Burial was in McLouth cemetery.

    3. The McLouth Times Friday August 12, 1949 Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe MILLER and children, Oskaloosa spent Sunday the home of her brother, Mr. James BRITTAIN. Mr. and Mrs. Milt EDMONDS drove to the Edmonds Church Sunday morning and were accompanied by Mrs. Ella GINTER and grandson Derald DAVIS, and returned home at noon where they has as their guests at dinner, Mrs. Walter WYATT and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. LIVINGSTON all of Kansas City, Mrs. Ella GINTER and Derald DAVIS. Mr. Walter WYATT accompanied his family and drove on to the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. WYATT, Oskaloosa, where he was a guest and all returned the same evening.

SHRADER. Mr. Bill LOBB and Miss Opal LOBB, Kansas City, spent the week end with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy LOBB. Mr. and Mrs. W.L. GARRETT who have been visiting during the summer from their home in Jena, La., arrived Saturday from Valley Falls where they had been visiting relatives in various places to the home of his sister, Mrs. L.J. SCHOCKLEY and Mrs. Schockley, where they were joined by Mrs. Cora GERRISH, a sister, Atchison, where all are spending the week.

    3. The McLouth Times Friday August 5, 1959 A KIMMEL dinner was held at the Bretheran basement Sunday, July 24. Mr. Ezra KIMMEL and family of Brookville, Ohio, had arrived in McLouth for a visit with the families of the late Jesse and Henry KIMMEL. Those who were in attendance were: Mr. and Mrs. Ezra KIMMEL, Mr. and Mrs. Byron KIMMEL and son Dale and Gary, all of Brookville, Ohio; Mr. and Mrs. Walter KIMMEL and a friend from Lawrence, Kansas; Mr. and Mrs. Donald BOWER and family of Wichita; Mr. and Mrs. Willard McPHERSON, Nancy and Jane, of Oskaloosa; Mr. and Mrs. Robert TURNER of Tonganoxie.
