The McLouth Times Friday March 24, 1950 Mr. and Mrs. Cecil MANEWAL are the proud parents of a daughter born March 15. She weighed 7 pounds and has been given the name Starla Sue.
The McLouth Times Friday March 24, 1950 Mr. and Mrs. Frank NEWMAN announce the birth of their son, Roger Eugene, born March 18. He weighed 8 pounds, 4 ounces.
The McLouth Times Friday March 24, 1950 Mr. and Mrs. Joe BOWIE received word of the birth of a granddaughter, Patricia Louise, born March 17, at Stormont hospital, Topeka, Kansas. The baby weighed 7 pounds 13 ounces. Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. Russell BOWIE of Mayetta.
The McLouth Times Jefferson County Friday March 24, 1950 Dr. Milton Cain. Dr. Milton CAIN passed away at his home March 20, 1950, at the age of 83. He was born in Platte County, Mo., December 20, 1866. He moved to Springdale with his parents, Eli and Sarah Cain, when he was five years old. Dr. Cain graduated from Friends Academy at Tonganoxie, Kansas, May 29, 1891, and from the University Medical College, Kansas City, Mo., March 1895, as a doctor of medicine. He was a practicing physician in McLouth for a number of years, as long as his health permitted. Dr. Cain was the last living charter member of the First Baptist church, McLouth.

The McLouth Times Friday March 17, 1950 Mrs. J. W. Rice. Funeral services for Mrs. J. W. RICE were held Friday afternoon February 24 at the Lebo Methodist Church with Rev. Paul Davis officiating. Burial wa in Lincoln Cemetery. Music was furnished by Mrs. Morris Ott and Mrs. Dan C. Evans with Mrs. Charles W. Knight as accompanist at the organ. Songs were, "It Is Well With My Soul," and "Safe In The Arms of Jesus." Casket bearers were, Charles W. Knight, W.W. Traylor, M.L. Bailey, C.H. Hottle, T.C. Blue and Dan C. Evans. Nettie A. ZABRISKIE daughter of Zeno and Gertrude Zabriskie was born November 11, 1862, in Rock Island County, Ill. Death came to her at her home in Lebo, Kansas on February 22, 1950. She was eighty seven years, three months, eleven days of age. She came to Kansas with her family in a covered wagon when she was five years of age. Their first home in the state was at McLouth. Her she grew to womanhood, and on Dec. 24, 1882 was united in marriage to J.W. Rice also of McLouth. To this union six children were born. The family moved from McLouth to Ness County in 1913 and two years later to the Lebo community, where Mr. Rice was in business. Mrs. Rice joined the Methodist Church in 1883 and remained a loyal and valued member all her life.
The McLouth Times Jefferson County Friday March 10, 1950 Harry B. Ragan. Harry B. RAGAN, 73, of 10 East 56th Street, died Monday at the home. Mr. Ragan owned the Ragan Grain Co., from 1914 to 1947, when he retired. The commission company no longer exists. Mr. Ragan was born in Illinois and was reared in Exeter, Nebr. In 1903 he moved to McLouth, Kansas, where Mr. Ragan, his brother, Carl Ragan, and their father, Berkby Ragon, owned several grain elevators. Mr. Ragan moved to Kansas City in 1914 and organized the grain company. His sfather and brother joined the company in 1917. They died in 1939. Mr. Ragan was a member of the Lyra Masonic lodge in McLouth, the Ararat Shrine and the Royal Order of The Jesters of the Ararat Shrine. He played the trombone in the Shrine band. His wife, Mrs. Ada Ragan of the home survives.
The McLouth Times Jefferson County Friday March 3, 1950 Mrs. Nettie Rice. Mr. Ernest McHENRY, Mr. Neil VanDRUFF, Mrs. Nannie LOBB, and Mr. Clarence McHENRY drove to Lebo, Kansas, Friday to attend the funeral of their aunt, Mrs. Nettie RICE, who died at her home, Wednesday, February 22. Mrs. Rice was the former Miss Nettie ZABRISKIE, daughter of Zeno and Gertrude Zabriskie. She was married to Wesley Rice and lived in McLouth several years before moving to Lebo. Mr. Rice died several years ago. Mrs. Rice is survived by two sons, Walter of Lebo, and Dwight of Purdy, Mo.; one daughter, Mrs. Nora PEABODY of Emporia. The funeral wa at the Lebo Baptist church with interment in the Lebo cemetery.
The McLouth Times Jefferson County Friday March 3, 1950 Clyde Swain. Clyde SWAIN passed away Monday morning about 7 o'clock at his home, 2 1/2 miles South of McLouth, at the age of 77 years. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. India Swain, two sons, Milton of the home and Byron of McLouth, four daughters, Mrs. Ella MOSES, Basehor, Kansas, Mrs. Edith OTTO, Tonganoxie, Kansas, Mrs. Ethel ARTMAN, Atchison, Kansas, and Mrs. Ruby HOLLIDAY, Oskaloosa, Kansas. Seventeen grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, and one brother, Roscoe Swain, Lawrence, Kansas.

Mrs. Frank CHAMPION, Sr., the correspondent for the Wellman-Woodstock news, we understand, was taken to the Lawrence Memorial hospital Saturday, where she is quite ill with pneumonia. We hope she will soon be able to be back home and write her column again.
The McLouth Times Friday March 3, 1950 Mr. Clarence SEAVER underwent an appendectomy at the Lawrence Memorial hospital Thursday morning. Mrs. J.W. SEAVER accompanied Mrs. Clarence Seaver to Lawrence Memorial hospital Thursday morning to be near Clarence Seaver who underwent an operation that morning. Mrs. Clarence SEAVER and Mr. J. W. Seaver went to Lawrence Sunday to see Clarence Seaver. Clarence is to be dismissed from the Lawrence hospital Tuesday noon. Captain John JEFFRIES is participating with his unit, Battery "A", 537th Field Artilllery from Camp Carson, Colo., in a sub-Artic "combat" maneuver in the Yukon, a region long famous as one of the great outposts of advernture and exploration on the North American continent. Captain Jeffries is the husband of Mrs. June E. Jeffries, who lives at RR No. 2, McLouth, Kansas.
The McLouth Times Jefferson County Friday February 17, 1950 Dave Meredith. Funeral services for Dave MEREDITH, 79, lifelong resident of the Oskaloosa community who died at his home there Tuesday morning, will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist church in Oskaloosa. Burial will take place in the McLouth cemetery and the body is at the Hampton Funeral Home. Mr. Meredith was a member of the Oskaloosa Methodist church, the Masonic Lodge No.14 and the Order of the Eastern Star. He leaves one daughter, Miss Lucille Meredith in Topeka, two brothers, Frank Meredith of Oskaloosa and Owen Meredith of Seattle, Wash. Hampton Funeral Home is in charge.
The McLouth Times Jefferson County Friday February 10, 1950 Mrs. Frances Mary Ferris. Mrs. Frances Mary FERRIS passed away at her home in Tonganoxie, Kansas on January 29, at the age of 74 years. She was born at Lansing, Kansas but had lived in Tonganoxie since 1910. Mrs. Ferris is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Esther BURROUGH, McLouth, Kansas and Mrs. Irene HAAS, Tonganoxie, also three sons, Daniel Ferris, Washington, D.C., Charles Ferris, Vicksburg, Missouri, and Eugene Ferris, Hall, West Virginia. Also two sisters and one brother. Funeral services were held on Wednesday morning at nine o'clock at the Sacred Heart Church and interment at the Sacred Heart Cemetery at Tongonoxie.

The McLouth Times Friday February 3, 1950 Surprise Birthday Dinner. Mrs. E.S. EDMONDS was pleasantly surprised for her 80th birthday, by her children on Sunday, January 29. The birthday dinner was served at the Green Parrot Inn, in Kansas City. The dinner was attended by Mr. and Mrs. E.E. REEDY, Parsons, Kansas; Mr. and Mrs. E.L. BUSH and daughters, Susanne and Mary Virginia, Des Moines, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Thos. EDMONDS, and sons, Tom Jr., and Robert, Sunflower, Kansas, and Mr. Thurman EDMONDS of McLouth, Kansas. Mrs. Edmonds was presented a beautiful corsage, a large birthday cake, a broach and many other gifts to remember this happy occasion.

The McLouth Times Jefferson County Friday February 3, 1950 Elizabeth Ehlers Found Dead. Elizabeth EHLERS was found dead in bed Friday morning around 9 o'clock by her brother, Martin Ehlers with whom she lived. "Lizzie" as she was known by her friends, suffered a heart attack. She was a member of the Alcione Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister. She is survived by two brothers, Herman and Martin Ehlers, 1 niece, Mrs. Rosalyn THOMPSON, 2 nephews, Henry and Marlin Ehlers.
