Thanks much. Now I just need to run down their names. I presume that they could vote in state or local elections but maybe I made that up? Thanks, Jan ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
I'm trying to find out what year this famous city council was elected in Oskaloosa. I know it's been discussed on this list, but somehow I must not be using the right words to search on line. (If I wanted to meet females on line, apparently the computer will help me do that, or run for Council now.) Can anybody steer me in the right direction? Jan T ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
The Oskaloosa all woman council and mayor were elected April 2, 1888. A similar election outcome occurred at Baldwin City in April 1889 followed by Beatty, Kansas on April 3, 1899. There have been some statements that the other towns were the first to have the women elected, but according to my research, Oskaloosa was earlier.
