Author: RichardWellman44 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kansas.counties.jefferson/566.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: According to cemetery records of Hardy Oak cemetery, they are both buried in lot 38-E in that cemetery in Jefferson Co. KS. I can't speak to the accuracy of that record, but will do some more checking to see what else I can find. Are you familiar with the book titled "A Grandmother's Memories"? It was written in 1965 by Ruth I. (Rogers) Willits, a granddaughter of William Fletcher & Mary Innocence (Weir) Rogers. It describes the 1866 trip to Kansas taken by "Fletcher" (as he was known) and Mary in a covered wagon pulled by oxen. The Weir ancestors had owned slaves, but Fletcher was a "free state" supporter that lived in Missouri, so there are some interesting stories about their stay in Missouri. I'm a distant relative to the family on the Rogers side. Let me know if you are interested in more details about the book. 1. [KSJEFFER] Jefferson County Death lookup William Fletcher Rogers
    2. There are several William Rogers listings in the Jefferson County tombstone inscription book ("Tombstone Inscriptions and Burials, Jefferson County, Kansas, 1854-1986," compiled by the Jefferson County Genealogical Society). I think this is your guy: ROGERS, William Fletcher d 28 Dec 1871, UNKN which means they don't know where he's buried either. Also listed: ROGERS, Mary I G (WEIR) 28 Dec 1822 - 16 Dec 1904, w/William Fletcher Rogers, UNKN. ROGERS, Julia A, d 7 Aug 1887, age 29y 5m 11d, d/William & Mary E Rogers LRRG [may be one of those other Williams] ROGERS, Marquis Lafayette "Irish", 12 Dec 1852? - 21 May 1924, s/Wm F & Mary I Rogers, h/Nancy Belle Carter, HDOK. ROGERS, Marquis De, 6 Jan 1891 - 17 Apr 1966, s/Marquis Layfayette & Nancy Belle Rogers, h/Mary Nancy Ulrich, HDOK. ROGERS, Mary Nancy (Ulrich) 11 JUn 1894 - 22 May 19851, d/Anthony & Eva Murr Ulrich, w/Marquis De Rogers, HDOK. ROGERS, Nancy Belle 1857 - 1934, w/Fate Rogers, HDOK. ROGERS, William, d Jan 1898, age 79 y, LRRG ROGERS, Mrs. William, d Oct 1903, LRRG ROGERS, William C, 1863-1951,STJO ROGERS, William Edwin "Ed", 14 July 1870 -13 Dec 1924, s/Edwin Wilburn & Lucretia Ann Witt Rogers, h/Anna E Gibson RFPR ROGERS, William W, 28 Apr 1909 - 7 Jun 1980, s/Walter & Nora Heineken Rogers, h/Lola Moyer, NRVL As to the cemetery abbreviations, UNKN is unknown, HDOK is Hardy Oak, RFPR is Reformed Presbyterian, STJO is St. Josephs (Nortonville Catholic), NRVL is Nortonville, and LRRG is Lamar-Rogers (Crooked Creek). The marriage book has many Rogers listings, but I found these which might possibly be relevant: Rogers, Marcus D, 21, McLouth, KS, m. Ulrich, Mary N, 18, Ackerland, KS, June 19, 1912. Rogers, Marcus S, 23, Jefferson Co. KS, m. Carter, Nancy B, 20, Jefferson Co. Ks, Nov 26 1876, at Oskaloosa by L D Price, minister. For what it's worth, there are about a dozen Weir family listings in the tombstone book, most of them buried at the RFPR (Reformed Presbyterian) cemetery. Happy hunting.
