The Oskaloosa Times Jefferson County Friday April 20, 1900 Another death from Small-Pox. Wm. LARISON, who lived north of Winchester, died with small pox last week. This is the second death that has occurred in this county from the dreaded disease. We learn that Ed WRIST who is afflicted with the disease is lying very low, but hopes are entertained for his recovery. The other cases are getting along nicely and and no new ones are reported. Later:--Mr. WRIST died yesterday.
The Oskaloosa Times Jefferson County Friday April 20, 1900 Badly Burned. Mrs. George THOMPSON living about four miles northwest of town, whose dress caught fire last Saturday while she was burning some brush was resting easy at last reports. She was quite badly burned on the hands, arms and back and was in a critical condition for awhile. With proper care and attention she will come out all right and this we understand she is receiving. Her huband burned his hands severely in going to her assistance.
The Oskaloosa Times Jefferson County Friday April 20, 1900 A Say Journey. It was a sad journey Mr. Jobe TRAPP made on his return from Oklahoma last week--much different from the one he made last fall when he and his wife traveled to the Territory in a covered wagon. When they left Oskaloosa they were in good spirits, full of hope. THey had a son in the Territory and they anticipated a pleasant time on there arrival there. But how uncertain is life. They arrived there all right, but a short time ago Mrs. Trapp took down with the la grippe from which she never recovere. The husband started on his sorrowful journey back to Oskaloosa with the remains, soon after her death, and arrived here Sunday. Funeral services were held at the residence of Mr. Evans, Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. McConnell, after which the remains were interred in Oskaloosa's beautiful cemetery.
The Oskaloosa Times Jefferson County Friday April 20, 1900 Orlan ABBOTT, born January 17th, 1805, died April 12th, 1900, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Geo. CORBER, at the ripe old age of 95 years, 2 months and 25 days. He was born in New York and with his father moved to Ohio in 1820. In the year 1930 he was united in marriage to Miss Lucinda T. ANDRUS from which union nine children were born, six sons and three daughters. In 1840 he moved to Kansas, locating near the present town of Ozawkie, and ha sbeen a permanent Jefferson Co., citizen for 31 successive years. He was a devout Christian man all of his life. Three of his children survive him, two sons and one daughter, all of which were present at his funeral. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. McAferty, at the Pleasant View Chapel, after which the remains were intereed in the Pleasant View cemetery.
The Oskaloosa Times Friday April 20, 1900 Last Saturday evening while burning some weeds Mrs. George THOMPSON's dress became ignited and she was burned about the arms and waist, to the extent that her life was despaired of. Mr. Thompson was also burned about the hands in attempting to help his wife. Dr. PUDERBAUGH was called and dressed the wounds and reports them some better at present writing.(Ozawkie.)
The Oskaloosa Times Friday April 20, 1900 Judge Dick's Court. Shelby BOLLAR and Stella PADDECK, both of Oskaloosa, secured a license on the 16th and were married on the 18th. On the 19th, C.E. BEYERLE, of Lincoln, Neb., secured a license for the marriage of Anna L. PERKINS, of Des Moines, Ia. Judge Dick performed the ceremony. The will of Daniel HIGMAN has been admitted to probate ont he 17th.

The Oskaloosa Times Jefferson County Friday April 20, 1900 Mrs. Grant MYERS, formerly Miss Evie MILLER, daughter of Cal Miller and wife, died at her parents home, near Easton, Sunday night. Funeral services were held at the Dunkard church here, of which she was a member. Revs. STOUT, KIMMEL and DESSINGER, officiating.

GODDARD filed a final settlement as guardian of May Goddard. Colfax HARMAN qualified as guardian of Spencer Harman and others, on the 11th. F.P. LEWIS was appointed guardian of Marion Lewis and others, on the 11th. On the 11th, Chas. CLINKENBEARD of North Topeka, secured a license to marry Gertie MILLER, of Oskaloosa, and the ceremony was performed by the judge. On the 12th Robert McCALL qualified as guardian of Estella McCall. The Topeka Daily Capital Monday September 6, 1965 John S. Campbell. Valley Falls.--John S. CAMPBELL, 72, Valley Falls, died Sunday at a Winchester hospital after a short illness. He was born Feb. 15. 1893 at West Philadelphia, Pa., and moved to Blue Mound community south of Valley Falls when he was 9. He lived and operated a farm with his cousin, Oliver G. Campbell, in the Blue Mound community. He was a member of the United Brethren Church and Blue Mound Grange. Besides the cousin, survivors include two brothers, Crawford Campbell and Thomas Campbell, both of Philadelphia, Pa. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church at Valley Falls. The Blue Mound Grange will conduct graveside services at Valley Falls Cemetery. Hagge Funeral Home at Valley Falls is in charge of arrangements.
