Mr. and Mrs. John NEVINS are walking on air these ddays since the arrival of their great-grandson to Mr. and Mrs. Jack TALIAFERRO who live northwest of Effingham. The 8 lb. boy has been named Gerald Edwin and he was born last Wednesday, March 26th. His mother was before here marriage Miss Leta MEADOR, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jess Meador.

The Valley Falls Vindicator Jefferson County Wednesday January 15, 1941 John Edwin COFFEY, A.T. and Santa Fe depot agent at Rock Creek for 50 yearss departed this life at a Topeka hospital the afternoon of Dec. 25, 1940. His father, at the age of 19 years, cam eto America from Kildare County, Ireland, Feb. 22, 1820, settling near Philadelphia, Pa., later bought a farm in Wayne County, Pa., where he lived until 1857 when he came West to the land sales being held in Ozawkie. At those sales, he bought the farm west of Rock Creek, known as the old Coffey farm where John was born March 16, 1864, son of John A. and Mary Elizabeth Coffey. Spending most of his earlier life on the farm, he entered service of the Santa Fe March 1879 as night watchman. During his spare time he learned the telegraphy trade and in April, 1887 was appointed agent and operator of Rock Creek, Kans., where he remained for 50 years, 11 months. On Feb. 22, 1938 he retired from service. He helped the road in its pioneer days and watched it grow from year to year, developing inton one of the finest railroads in this or any other countryl. He did his bit during this time. He was Postmaster eight years and telephone operator several years, having both in his home at the same time. On Aug. 2, 1940 he entered the Santa Fe hospital, submitted to an operation August 5th for an intestinal disorder from which he never recovered. Although he knew his time was near, he was ready and willing to go, and had all plans made which were carried out by his family. He was a loving husband and father, was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need and also for all community affairs. He will be sadly missed by home, family, and friends. On March 2, 1886, he was united in marriage to Bell COOL of Meriden, at Newman, Kansas, they having resided in their home near the depot for those years. Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son, Mrs. Blanche DOUGAN of Topeka, Kans. and Mr. Lester T. Coffey of Chicago; a grandaughter, Miss Mary Coffey, who has resided with them since infancy; a sister, Mrs. Laura BECKER of Topeka; a brother, James E. Coffey, Kansas City, Mo.; his parents, 3 sisters and 3 borhters having preceded him in death; 5 other grandchildren, Earl Dougan and Mrs. Marvel Shaw of Kansas CIty, Mo., James and Johnnie Dougan of Aubur, Corp. Robert B. Dougan of Fort Robinson, Ark., Betty Dougan of Topeka; one great-grandson, George Dougan of Topeka. Pallbearers wre Bank Hodges, Mathew Martin, Lois Koehler, Joe Kane, E.M. Webster and Geo. Bond. Services were held in St. Aloysius church in Meriden Dec. 28, with Fr. Egbert Hall officiating. Beautiful hymns were sung by Mrs. Katherine Semon and Mrs. William Lindabury of Topeka. Burial in Meriden cemetery.

    3. The Valley Falls Vindicator Jefferson County Wednesday December 25, 1940 Funeral At Oskaloosa. Funeral services for Henry W. BELL, 83, colored, a Jefferson county farmer, who lived near Oskaloosa, were held Wednesday afternoon at the A.M.E. church in Oskaloosa. Mr. Bell passed away at his home last Monday. Pallbearers were James Bell, William Bell, Charles Bell, Roscoe Bell, and Frank Bell, all sons, and Thomas Hurst, a son-in-law.

Word was received here recently of the death of Miss Faye BOOTH, daughter of Mrs. Leota Booth. She passed away December 8th at the age of 54 years at her home in Lookeba, Okla., where funeral services were held.

    3. The Valley Falls Vindactor Jefferson County Wednesday December 18, 1940 Mrs. Susan Abigail PRICE, 78, passed away suddenly at her home near Valley Falls, Kansas, on December 1, 1940. She was born near Valley Falls, Kansas, on October 6, 1862. She grew to womanhood in Jefferson County and was united in marriage to Leroy H. Price on October 30, 1883. To this union were born eight children. Twin daughters, and a son, Homer, died in infancy. Surviving Mrs. Price are her aged husband, Leroy H. Price; five sons, Walter and Ralph of Oak Mills, Kansas; Elmer of Yuma, Arizona; Joe of Manhattan, Kansas; and Ross of Sabetha, Kansas. Seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Elisha MILLER, of Valley Falls, Kansas; two brothers, Jack HOGAN of Charlo, Montana, and Elmer Hogan, of Valley Falls also survive. Mrs. Price was a member of the Methodist church and claimed to be a Christian and always wanted prayer in her home. She was a loving companion and mother, and was held in high esteem by all of her neighbors and friends. Funeral services were conducted from the Coal Creek Evangelical Chruch Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 4., with burial in the Nortonville cemetery.

The Valley Falls Vindicator Jefferson County Wednesday November 27, 1940 Ione Annice RAWN, the oldest child, of Wm. and the late Ruby Rawn, was born near Valley Falls, Oct. 14, 1904, and departed this life Nov. 18, 1940, at Bremerton, Wash. When a young girl, with her parents, she moved to Topeka. After a short time her mother died, leaving here to make a home for her father and brother and sister. Later she was married to Wm. DAVISON, who with the father, brother, Arnold, and sister, Mrs. John REES, also many other relatives, are left to mourn a dear one. She and her husband had only moved to Washington late in the summer whre he had employment. The preacher's words, the flowers and the crowds attending th service all spoke of a life well spent. Although the word of her death was a great shock, she was never very strong but had born her suffering, always thinking some day she would find a cure for her asthma which had troubled her from birth. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in Topeka with burial in the cemetery there.

He was born March 1, 1870 in Atchison county, and lived in Atchison and Jefferson counties until 1930 when he moved to Topeka. He was a member of the St. Marys Catholic church in Valley Falls. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. John H. Steinmetz, of the home; one brother, A.R. Steinmetz, Valley Falls; one sister, Etta May RAY, Billings, Mont., and a number of nieces and nephews. Services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at the St. Marys Catholic church in Valley Falls. Burial in Valley Falls.

    3. The Valley Falls Vindicator Jefferson County Wednesday July 10, 1940 Davison--Whitaker. The wedding of Miss Jane DAVISON, McLouth, Kas., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. I.L. Davison, of McLouth, Kas., and Mr. Max WHITAKER of Nortonville, Kas., took place Saturday, June 29, at 8:00 o'clock at the McLouth United Brethren church with the Rev. Harry Sims officiating. Preceding the ceremony, Miss Ruth SCHAEFFER, accompanied by Miss Margaret STEEPER, played a series of violin numbers. Miss Mary Elizabeth BLAIR sang two number, "Because" and "At Dawning." Mrs. Paul BRACHMAN, sister of the bride was the maid of honor, and Miss Donis McDERMOND and Miss Miriam KIMMEL were bridesmaids. Mr. Paul BRACKMAN, husband of the bride's sister acted as best man to the groom and the ushers were Mr. William and Robert MOSER, friends of the groom. The bride wore a gown of ivory bridal satin with a sweet heart neckline, close fitting sleeves and a long circular train. Her full length tulle veil fell from a satin halo. She carried a bouquet of white madonna lilies. After the ceremony, a reception was held in the church for the guests which included relatives and many friends. The couple are now at their home in Nortonville, Kas. (Note: Typed as printed in newspaper.)

She was the mother of James Haggard, formerly Santa Fe agent here, and had often visited in his home during his residence here. Funeral services will be held in Topeka, Thursday afternoon at 5 o'clock with burial in the cemetery there.

    3. The Oskaloosa Times Jefferson County Friday August 10, 1900 Jessie H. WILKERSON, who died August 5th, was born in Platt Co., Mo., July 23rd, 1869. He was 31 years old at the time of death. He with his parents came to Kansas in 1880, and settled in this vicinity where he since lived. He was of a family of 8 children, 5 girls, and 3 boys--three of whom have preceded him to the other world. He followed the carpenter trade and had gone to Oklahoma where he was at work, when he was taken sick with typhoid fever, soon after which he was brought home. He seemed to mend slowly and all entertained hopes of recovery, but on last Friday afternoon he was taken worse and on Sunday afternoon died.

They were married the same day by the judge. On Monday a license to was issued to Ben FULLER to marry Anna HYMAN, both of Valley Falls.
