The Mayetta Herald Jackson County Thursday September 17, 1914 Oscar LAIRD, the 13 year old son of Harry Laird, section foreman at Nortonville, was drowned Saturday afternoon while bathing in the Haines pond west of town. Another small boy was with him when he got in deep water and called for help. The boy with him managed to get out, put on his clothes and drive to town for help. Three quarters of an hour elapsed before the body was found. Life was extinct long before the body was recovered. Oscar Laird was the son of Harry by his first marriage. Funeral was held from the Christian church Monday, at ten o'clock. Burial at Cummings cemetery at the family lot.
