I wanted to tell of my experience in looking through the social security death index. Don't always assume the information tells you where they died. I had an occasion to look for a relative, and found his SSDI recorded as last benefit in CA. It did lead me to find his only child, who told me his father died in FL, he flew there from his home in CA, to retrieve personal possessions from the nursing home, and took his father's ashes back to CA and as he himself had seen about his father's bills from CA, his check coming to him or to a bank in CA, it looked as though the man had died in CA.
