The Mayetta Herald Jackson County Thursday May 18, 1916 Hoyt Doctor Dead. Dr. J.W. PETTIJOHN, a pioneer physician of Hoyt, Kan., died Sunday afternoon at 5 o'clock at his home, west of Hoyt. Dr. Pettijohn had been a resident of Hoyt for over thirty years and practiced until two years ago, when he retired to his farm. He was also one of the largest landownerss in Jackson county, owning 2000 acres near Hoyt and much property in the town. He was 83 years old and is survived by a son, Will Pettijohn, of Hoyt. The funeral will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock from his home. Burial will be in the Hoyt cemetery.
