The Mayetta Herald Jackson County Thursday May 20, 1915 Rosa Bell RIPPETOE, was born in Dekalb, Co., Mo., Jan. 12, 1876, and died at her home in Hoyt, Kan., May 12, 1915, age 39 years, 4 months. She moved with her parents to Jackson county, Kan., January, 1878. She united with the church at the age of eleven years. She married Edwin C. LYON, March 31, 1897. To this union were born two sons, William and James. Her husband and sons, age 17 and 14, survive here and were at her bedside in her last months. She was a kind loving wife, mother and neighbor, always looking to be the best friends of all around her. The funeral services were held at the M.E. church at Hoyt, of which she had been a very faithful worker. The services were conducted by Rev. N.N. Smelser. She was laid to rest in the Hoyt cemetery, May 14, 1915. She will long be remembered by her many neighbors and friends.

    3. The Mayetta Herald Jackson County Thursday May 13, 1915 Elm Creek Item. The following pupils that took the recent county examinations for dipolmas received their grades Saturday. We think Miss STADEL should feel proud that all of her pupils passed. They were Willie CROWLEY, Almeda LONG, Marje FRAZIER and Alfred BAKER. Ella McGINNIS was also successful in the five branches she took.

    3. The Mayetta Herald Jackson County Thursday May 13, 1915 Grandpa SLATTERY died about 10:00 o'clock Sunday morning at his residence. He has been quite feeble for a long time but not seriously ill until the pst week. Dr. Culp, of Hoyt, came out every day last week to see him. We have known Grandpa Slattery for a good many years and always found him to be a kind, good neighbor and fine old gentleman. (Elm Creek.)

    3. The Mayetta Herald Jackson County Thursday May 13, 1915 John Slattery, Sr. Jno. SLATTERY, Sr., died at his home south of Mayetta, Sunday morning at 10:00 o'clock. He has been in poor health all winter. He was over 84 years of age. Mr. Slattery was one of the pioneers of this county. Born in Tipperary county, Ireland, September 15, 1830. He came to America when fourteen years of age, first living in Pennsylvania, then in town, where he was married. Later he moved to Doniphan county, Kas. In the spring of 1184 he moved to his late home in Jackson county. One daughter, Mrs. Geo. McGINNNIS, and five sons, James. Neal, John, William and Edward, were born to this union. ALl survive the deceased but Neal, who died in the year 1913. Funeral services were conducted from the Catholic church at Hoyt, Tuesday, May 11 at 10 o'clock. The Rev. F. A. Genitz officiating.

    3. The Mayetta Herald Jackson County Thursday May 6, 1915 Commencement. The commencement exercises of the Mayetta High School were held at the Methodist church, Thursday evening, April 27. Only two graduates represented the school this year, Miss Allie BURKS and Ira LANDON. Rev. John W. Waldron of Holton, delivered the address.

    3. The Mayetta Herald Thursday May 6, 1915 Miss Nell WEBSTER, who was operated on in St. Francis hospital at Topeka last Friday is getting along splendidly. While the operation proved a serious one, no bad effects have followed, and the patient's recovery is rapid. Mrs. Webster is still with her daughter at the hospital. --Holton Recorder.

    3. The Mayetta Herald Jackson County Thursday April 8, 1915 Grandpa Buffon. Grandpa BUFFON, who has made his home with his son, Ned, for many years, died at their home at Powhattan, Saturday. He was over 92 years of age and a hale and hearty man up to his death. Only a few months ago he came to Mayetta alone for a several days' visit. He suffered a partial paralyetic stroke and the end was not long. How pleasant it is when one has more than lived his allotted time that the end is not of sickness and pain of long duration. The body was brought to Mayetta Monday, where funeral director Goheen, took charge of the funeral, taking the remains to Denison, where he was place beside his wife in the Denison cemetery.

Miss Margaret WHITE, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed White was married to Mr. Lewis BOLZ, at Topeka, Wednesday, March 24. Mr. Bolz is the son of Frank Bolz and is an industrious young farmer. Both are well known by their many friends as bright, progessive young people. They cherish a wide acquaintance, having lived on farms east of Mayetta most of their lives, who wish them a happy married life.

    3. The Mayetta Herald Jackson County Thursday April 1, 1915 School closed Friday with Miss Buelah HITTLE, teacher. There was a program and spelling contest. Those who received prizes in spelling for the most head marks were: First grade, Ruth ROBSON; second grade, Lula JONES; third grade, Sarah JONES; fourth grade, Lucille JONES; five and sixth grades, Nellie JAMES; seventh and nineth, Alice SMITH. After the program Viola HEISELMAN took a photograph of those present.
