The Mayetta Herald Jackson County Thurday February 24, 1916 Married: At the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Wah-was-suck, one mile south of the Mission church, Rev. A. L. Plowman, Missionary, officiating at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 19th. Mr. Tribly Wah-was-suck and Miss Emma YOUNG, Pottawatomi young people who have the best wishes of their many friends about the Reservation. They will begin housekeeping on a lease near by, and no doubt will rival most of the Indians in the farm products produced. The Missionary says he has married a great many couples, but this is the first couple of originial Americans united by him. He was proud of the opportunity.

The Mayetta Herald Jackson County Thursday February 24, 1916 Death of N.D. Bailey. N.D. BAILEY, died at his home in Topeka Friday morning, after a few days illness. Mr. Bailey had quite a number of relatives and friends in this vicinity. The remains were taken to Kewanee, Ill., for interment. Those from here who went there were, Mrs. S.E. CATHCART, F.D. COONEY, and Mrs. Leo SLATTERY and Miss Mary FLYNN from Kansas City.

John TAYLOR, 50 years old and Guy MORROW, 35 years old, were killed in pistol battle at Emmett Monday, the result of ill feeling over a school election. Both were farmers with families and are known by many Mayetta people.
The Mayetta Herald Thursday February 10, 1916 Mrs. John TORK of Holton went to the hospital at Topeka last week to undergo an operation for some internal trouble. She was accompanied by her daughter, Mrs. R.L. MILLER. J.H. SMITH, T.J. WHELAN and Cy GRAVES, went to Kansas City, Monday to attend the Motor Show.

The school house in the Point Pleasant district caught fire last Wednesday morning, before school time, from burning coals falling on the floor from the stove. When the teacher arived and spread the alarm the fire had gained such headway that it could bot be controlled.
The Mayetta Herald Thursday January 6, 1916 The R.L. Miller Merc. Co., started to invoice their store of goods Tuesday. A.J. and S.R. JONES and W.C. and John COONEY are assisting with the work. R.L. MILLER has had a force of men building another grain silo near the elevator the past few days which will be completed this week and will hold about 1600 bushels of corn. Mr. Miller had tro make more storage room on account of the shortage of cars to shipout.

The Mayetta Herald Jackson County Thursday January 6, 1916 Mr. and Mrs. Ed POOLER, Mr. and Mrs. Al POOLER and Mrs. Harry FITZSIMMONS went to Topeka Saturday to attend the funeral of Albert H. SHOAF which took place Sunday. Mr. Shoaf was a brother-in-law of Ed and Frank Pooler and has been an employee of the U.S. mail service several years.
The Mayetta Herald Jackson County Thursday January 6, 1916 Peterson--Chalmers. A pretty home wedding took place Thursday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Louis PETERSON, when their daughter, Edith Adelia, was married to Mr. Chester Clyde CHALMERS. The service was read by Dr. J.E. Kirkpatrick, an uncle of the bridegroom. Only relatives and close friends witnessed the ceremony. The bride formerly attended the State Normal school at Emporia, Kan., and since then has been in the office of the Western School Journal. Mr. Chalmers is a graduate of the Topeka high school and of Washburn college. Mr. and Mrs. Chalmers will make their home in Mayetta, Kan., where Mr. Chalmers is principal of the high school.--Topeka State Journal. Mr. and Mrs. Chalmers have gone to housekeeping in rooms in the Clyde Miller residence. The Herald extends congratulations and best wishes.
The Mayetta Herald Jackson County Thursday January 6, 1916 Death of Mrs. Smith. Keriah Jane BEERY, was born in Hawkings county, Ohio, February 26, 1862, and died January 1, 1916, aged 63 years, 10 months and 5 days. She moved to Jackson county in 1879, and was united in marriage to Frances M. SMITH, October 5, 1882. To this union was born four children, the youngest dying in infancy. She leaves to mourn her loss besides her husband, one son and two daughters, Jerry L. Smith, Stella F. BAKER, and Mamie PETERS, and two sisters, Mary and Ida LISTER of Dover, Kansas. She joined the M.E. church abotu twenty five years ago. The funeral services were held at the M.E. church, January 3rd, conducted by Rev. T.B. Adell, of Grantville, Kan. and burial in the Mayetta cemetery. Card of Thanks. The Mayetta Herald Jackson County Thurday December 30, 1915 Nancy BRENNEMAN was born April 6, 1847, in Blair county, Penn., and departed this life, at Mayetta, Kansas, December 20, 1915, aged 68 years, 8 months and 14 days. She was united in marriage to Albert HAWN on February 28, 1871. To this union were born eight children, three sons, the eldest dying in infancy, Bryon and Roy of Mayetta, Kans., and five daughters, Mrs. Blanche NEWMAN of Wichita, Kan.; Estella KESINGER of Rozel, Kan.; Cornelia FRONK, of Ellinwood, Okla.; Pearl BALES of Larkinburg, Kan.; and Miss Allie who was her mother's constant companion. She leaves one brother, Mr. Frank Brennenman of Aitch, Penn., together with her family to mourn the loss of a kind hearted and devoted mother. Baptized in infancy in the M.E. church, she lived a faithful, consistent Christian life. The funeral services were held from the Christian church at Mayetta on Wednesday, December 22, and were in charge of Dr. John W. Waldron of Holton Methodist Episcopal church. Interment took place in the Hoyt cemetery. Card of Thanks. We sincerely thank our friends for their many acts of kindess and words of sympathy during the illness and death of our beloved mother.
