    3. The Hoyt Sentinel Jackson County Saturday June 21, 1902 Kennard--Jenson. Married at the home of bride's parents, a short distance south of Hoyt, June 18, 1902, James KENNARD of Elmont to Miss Tora JENSON. Rev. G.H. Clarke performed the interesting ceremony which made two loving hearts one. The three connecting rooms, were decorated with flowers and other attractive methods feminine artists use. The wedding supper was a very elaborate affair, and at least 75 guests partook of the host's hopsitality. On Thursday the groom's parents gave a reception dinner at which there was a large attendance.

Clarke officiating; after congratulations were extended, all repaired to the dining room where supper was served, consisting of cake, fruit, lemonade and ice cream. Many pretty and valuable presents were received. Those present were: Edith Ruffner, Mary Rickel, Manda Wooters, Myrtle Fleischer, Hattie and Mary McCaslin, of Topeka, Jennie Elliott, of Mayetta, Viola Boies and Lizzie Warning of Holton, Myra King of Jerome, Iowa, Harvey Elliott of Mayetta, Ed Ruffner, Ira Stewart, Frank Rippetoe, Will Fleischer, Will Holt and family, James Holt and family, Mary Aikins and family, Paul Fleisher and family, Mrs. S.B. Landis and family, Mrs. Robb and Bell Cox of Topeka.

    3. The Hoyt Sentinel Jackson County Saturday June 14, 1902 R.L. NESBAUM, general agent for Kansas Mutual Life Insurance Company went to Holton Thursday with a check for $10,000 and paid a death claim to the widow of Chas. A. OURSLER of Circleville. Mr. Oursler died on May 19th and the company setting the claim with commendable promptness and to the great satisfaction of Mrs. Oursler; we recommend this strong Kansas company to the attention of all who desire life insurance.

    3. The Hoyt Sentinel Jackson County June 14, 1902 On Tuesday while Walter CHUBB was employed in the field the "go-devil" stopped working. He went to release it, when the handle flew up knocking him down and cutting his heard. Fortunately the injury was not a serious one. Dr. Pettijohn attending him.

    3. The Hoyt Sentinel Jackson County Saturday May 24, 1902 Shooting Affray. Last Friday night the "boys" of the the neighborhood went to Porter S. COOK's ranch to serenade Mr. George McCLINTOCK and his bride. The groom passed out a box of cigars, which Bert GRIFFITH pretended he was going to run away with, when one of the crowd blazed away with a shotgu, lodged five or six wads in Griffith's back, necessitating their removal by Dr. C.W. CULP.

    3. The Hoyt Sentinel Jackson County Saturday May 20, 1902 A freight engine got "stalled" in the yards here Thursday afternoon. It was pulling at the time three disabled engines and their tenders and a number of flat cars. In some manner one dead engine and three or four cars became loose and ran backwards down the incline towards the passenger train, which was stopped a short distance below awaiting right of way, Ralph ELLIOTT and T.S. TOMLINSON two of our citizens, jumped on to the escaping cars and applied the brakes, and brought them to a stand-still preventing a disaster.

    3. The Hoyt Sentinel Jackson County Saturday May 10, 1902 Accident. Last Friday afternoon while engaged in laying brick in the walls of the new building used by the Hoyt State Bank, Charles COPELAND fell to the ground. The scaffold, which was a temporary structure, about fourteen feet above the ground suddenly gave away. Mr. Copeland's hands caught on the green wall which enabled him to fall more easily than if he had gone down with the scaffold. With the exception of a few bruises he was unhurt.

McKEEVER was kicked by a horse last Thursday evening and two ribs on his left side broken. The latest reports are that he is slowly recovering. Miss Freeda HEER has been having the mumps, but has nearly gotten the best of them.

    3. The Hoyt Sentinel Jackson County Saturday April 26, 1902 Train Wrecked. On Tuesday about 4:20 a.m. the third section of a special freight train overtook the second section when about two and a half miles south of Hoyt. THe second section had suddenly stopped by the main rod of the engine No. 18 droping down and smashing the air-brake pipe. The flagman of No. 2 did not have time to signal No. 3, when it came bounding along at a rate of 35 or 40 miles an hour, crashing into No. 2's caboose and other cars. The engine was thrown twenty feet down the embankment and turned over; the caboose, a dead-head cabaoose and three cars of merchandise were wrecked. Five lengths of rails were twisted and broken. The road superintendent and a wrecking crew and train came down from Horton about 9 a.m. and the road was in fix again in about four or five hours.
