The Hoyt Sentinel Jackson County Friday April 1, 1904 Mrs. Lucy, wife of Charles RICHARD, died at the family residence 2 1/2 miles northeast of town, early last Sunday morning, after an illness of several weeks. The deceased was the daughter of George BOLZ, and was born in Leavenworth in 1859. Subsequently moved to this county, having resided in the same neighborhood for the past nineteen years. She was married to Charles Richard on March 30, 1884. He husband and eight children survive her. Mrs. Richard was baptized in the Catholic Church as a child, but never associated herself with any denomination in the later years of her life. A short service was conducted at the residence Monday forenoon by Rev. Dean. The remains were takent to Meridan and where Rev. W.T. of Topeka, officiated. Interment in the cemetery at that place.

    3. The Hoyt Sentinel Jackson County Friday April 1, 1904 Martin--Barker. The announcement was received in Hoyt on Wednesday of the marriage of Miss Abbie MARTIN and Mr. Silas M. BARKER, and which took place at the home of the former's mother, Mrs. Frances Martin, near Adrain, at noon on that day. Both bride and groom are well known to many of our people. The bride is an earnest and devout christian and a woman of winsome manner and personality that has won her a wide circle of true and admiring friends. The groom is an engergetic and industrious farmer, who has by frugality acquired a furnished home, two miles north of town, where they will reside. Mr. and Mrs. Barker enter upon their life voyage under most auspicious circumstances, with naught to preclude unlimited happiness. That such may be their portion is the sincere wish of the Sentinel and their numerous friends.

    3. The Hoyt Sentinel Jackson County Friday March 11, 1904 The death is announced of Mrs. Winnie RAFTER, at her home in Whiting, aged 87 years. The deceased had been a resident of Kansas for many years. Six children survive and revere her memory. Others will also remember her as a kind hearted and affectionate woman. It has been said "she leaves the grandest monument of another, and evidence of a noble and well spent life." As such, she was truly a benefactress.

    3. The Hoyt Sentinel Jackson County Friday March 4, 1904 Wilcox--Maris. On Tuesday, March 1, 1904, at Belleville, Kansas, a marriage was solemnized which united two highly respected young people. The bride was Miss Lulu M. WILCOX, of Belleville; the groom, Mr. William MARIS, of Hoyt. After the ceremony the bridal couple took first train over the Rock Island System for their future home in Hoyt. She will be welcomed by many friends here who unite in wishing all happiness to be her lot through life. No better known, or more highly esteemed young man, lives in this vicinity than Mr. Maris. And we are glad he has broken up "Bachelor Hall" and changed his home to a happier and more congenial one. They start in married life with naught to mar a happy future. The Sentinel adds its congratulations to those of a host of other friends.

    3. The Topeka Daily Capital Friday April 8, 1966 Irene Osborn. Holton--Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Christian Church here for Mrs. Irene Elizabeth OSBORN, 41, Holton, who died Wednesday at a hospital here. A physician said she apparently died of cancer. Burial will be in Holton cemetery. She was born Nov. 1, 1924, at Netwaka and spent most of her life in the Netawaka and Holton communites. She was a member of the Christian Church of Holton. Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Grace DACHENHAUSEN, Holton; two sisters, Mrs. Pauline SMITH, Tampa, Fla., and Mrs. Audrey ODEN, Kansas City, Kan. Mercer Funeral HOme at Holton is in charge of arrangements.

    3. The Hoyt Sentinel Jackson County Friday January 29, 1904 R.J. WATERHOUSE, one of the pioneers of this county, recently died at Chanute. The deceased was a promient man and politician thirty-five years ago; was twice elected Sheriff and held several other positions of trust. Funeral was held in Holton, under the auspices of the I.O.O.F. Lodge, of which he had been a member for many years.

The Hoyt Sentinel Jackson County Friday January 29, 1904 Charles, the four year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank HEATH, residing four miles south of Holton, met with a terrible accident last week. He caught his hand in the cogs of a DeLaval milk separator and before it could be stopped his entire arm was ground in the wheels and mangled so badly that it had to amputated.

The deceased was beloved by all who knew her, and had been for years an active, zealous worker in the church and Sunday school, doing a laudable work whenever and wherever duty demanded it. Her death is a distinct loss to the church and community, as well as in the home circle now bereft of a loved member.

    3. The Hoyt Sentinel Jackson County Friday January 22, 1904 On last Sunday night occurred the death of Henry S. CUTTER, at the family residence in Point Pleasant precinct. His death removes from the scenes of life one who had for years taken a conspicous part in church and Sunday school work. He was in all respects an ideal man and citizen, who enjoyed the love and respect of his fellow men to a marked degree. In his home circle he was a model husband and father. A wife, several children and a host of friends mourn his death. Funeral services were held at the Renwood schoolhosue on Wednesday forenoon. Interment in Holton cemetery.

    3. The Hoyt Sentinel Jackson County Friday December 25, 1903 John Stach, Sr., died at home on Monday, December 14, aged 79 years, six months. The deceased had been an invalid for thirty years, but bore his affliction with christian fortitude and resignation. He espoused the cause of christianity in early childhood, and was true to its principles, precepts and mandates throughout life. The funeral was held Wednesday morning. Interment in the Rossville cemetery. A wife, two daughters and four sons survive and mourn his loss. The family have the sincere and heartfelt sympathy of many friends in their bereavement.     3. The Hoyt Sentinel Jackson County Saturday Friday December 18, 1903 Burned to Death by Gasoline. Mrs. Judge Z.T. HAZEN, was burned to death at her home in Topeka last Friday afternoon. She was cleaning some clothing in gasolene and her becoming cold she stopped to warm them. The gasolene with which her hands were saturated and her clothing sprinkled took fire and she was burned so badly that she died in a few hours. Her son received some bad burns while attempting to save his mother. The Judge received the sad news at the Court House, where he was holding court. (Note: Gasoline and Gasolene typed as printed in newspaper.)

The deceased had reached the advanced age of 80 years. The cause of his death was senility. Interment took place on Friday near Ontario.

    3. The Hoyt Sentinel Jackson County Friday November 6, 1903 Married in Holton. Miss Lola L. ELLIOTT and Mr. Arva CARREL were quietly married in Holton on Wednesday morning, at nine o'clock. Besides Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Elliott, father and mother of the bride, R.L. Elliott, brother of the bride, was also present and witnessed the ceremony, which took place at the Court House. Mr. and Mrs. Elliott returned to Hoyt on the noon train, while Mr. and Mrs. Carrel departed for St. Joseph, where they will make their home. Both parties are will known in Hoyt, and where the bride has resided all her life. The groom is an industrious young man of good habits. That they may enjoy the full measure of life's happiness their friends truly wish.
