The Mayetta Herald Jackson County Thursday October 1, 1914 Mrs. BURDEAUX, who lived with her daughter, Mrs. Wm. DONNELLY, on the reservation, died Wednesday, from old age. She was a remarkable old lady being of a rugged, healthful character. She died at the age of 95 years and 10 months. She was born in Indiana and was of a French decent. She was one of those characters who found much pleasure in smoking a pipe. She leaves two sons, and one daughter, Jack and James QUIRK and Mrs. Wm. DONNELLY. The funeral was held Thursday morning at the Catholic church at Hoyt and interment was in the Catholic cemetery. Father McKena, of Holton, officiated. J.M. Goheen was funeral director.
The Mayetta Herald Thursday October 1, 1914 J.H. HUNTER and wife and S.R. JONES, Jr., went to Cummings, Kan., Friday, called there by the sickness of the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Allen BILDERBACK. Mrs. Hunter remained at Cummings with her sister. It is thought the child has spinal menigitis. The sickness started with cholera infantum.
The Mayetta Herald Jackson County Thursday September 24, 1914 Mrs. Martha EARL died Sunday night at 12 o'clock. She was at the home of her brother, James DAUGHERTY. Same Newspaper; October 1,1914 Mrs. Martha Earl died at the home of her brother, James Daugherty, west of Mayetta, September 20, at the age of 40 years, 8 months and 20 days. She was born in Moultrie, Ill. She has been an intense sufferer for the last two months. The funeral services were conducted from the rest house at the Holton cemetery and were in charge of Dr. J.W. Waldron. The music was furnished by the Dynamo quartette.
The Mayetta Herald Thursday September 24, 1914 Blacksmith Shop. Clyde MILLER sold his blacksmith tools and stock at public auction, Wednesday afternoon. F.A. EVANS cried the sale. It was listed to be sold as a whole or in pieces. Clyde has been in business for eighteen months and has done a big business. He has employed two men part of the time to assist with the work. A large credit business has been done. It was sold as a whole to Homer PAGE, for $370.
The Mayetta Herald Jackson County Thursday September 24, 1914 Niles-Loughmiller. Ross LOUGHMILLER and Miss Maud NILES were married in Topeka last Wednesday. Mrs. Loughmiller is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E.H. Niles and has resided on the reservation for several years. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. G.F. Loughmiler. They returned to Mayetta Friday and are at home on the reservation.
The Mayetta Herald Jackson County Thursday September 24, 1914 Born to Mr. and Mrs. H.C. BREITENSTEIN, of Topeka, on Sunday, Sept. 6, a six pound girl whom they have named Leona Rose. Mrs. Breitensetein was Miss Mary LUDWIG before her marriage.
The Mayetta Herald Jackson County Thursday September 17, 1914 Oscar LAIRD, the 13 year old son of Harry Laird, section foreman at Nortonville, was drowned Saturday afternoon while bathing in the Haines pond west of town. Another small boy was with him when he got in deep water and called for help. The boy with him managed to get out, put on his clothes and drive to town for help. Three quarters of an hour elapsed before the body was found. Life was extinct long before the body was recovered. Oscar Laird was the son of Harry by his first marriage. Funeral was held from the Christian church Monday, at ten o'clock. Burial at Cummings cemetery at the family lot.
The Mayetta Herald Jackson County Thursday September 17, 1914 Grandpa Fisher Dies. Grandpa FISHER died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A.J. McALEXANDER, Tuesday morning at 4 o'clock, after an illness of long duration. He was 79 years of age and his death was not unexpected. The funeral was held Wednesday at the Christian church and burial was in the Mayetta cemetery.
The Mayetta Herald Thursday September 10, 1914 Little Loretta REEL, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.L. Reel, is reported dangerously sick at the home of her grandparents in Blaine, Kas., where the Reels have been visiting for two weeks. She is sick with cholera infantum. Mr. Reel was called Saturday and the child was not expected to live when he reached Blaine. Tuesday night it was thought she was out of danger.
The Mayetta Herald Thursday September 10, 1914 Mrs. Ed NEWMAN and children and Miss Bessie LARKIN, of Holton, returned home Sunday from a visit at Wichita. Sixteen little tots entered school for the first time Monday. Tom COX has moved back to Mayetta. He has been working in the oil fields in Oklahoma. He has moved in with his father.

The Mayetta Herald Jackson County Thursday August 27, 1914 Drowned While Swimming. Earl NEIHART of Holton, 30 years old, was drowned while swimming in the Deleware river at Arrington, Sunday. He was with a party of friends. The body was recovered with grappling hooks after being in the water an hour and a half. The party wished to cross the river and at this place it was fifteen feet deep. All but Neihart said they could not swim and would go farther down and cross. Neihart said he could swim it and jumped in. On coming up he yelled once for help and sank when near the opposite shore before they could come to his assistance. He leaves a wife and two small children. He lost his mother and a sister in the Omaho tornado.
The Mayetta Herald Jackson County Thursday August 27,1914 Fisher-Taylor. The marriage of Miss Margaret FISHER to Mr. James TAYLOR took place at the home of the bride Wednesday evening at 7:30. Before the ceremony, Guy BADGLEY sang "Perfect Day," Miss Maude TURNER, niece of the grom, played the wedding march. Miss Alice Fisher, sister of the bride, was bride's maid, and Mr. Geo. Taylor, brother of the groom, was best man. Duncan McFARLANE of the Christian church performed the ceremony. The bride was one of Jackson countys teachers last winter. Mr. and Mrs. Taylor will make their home on the Sinning Ranch west of Mayetta.
The Mayetta Herald Jackson County Thursday August 20, 1914 The little infant son fo Mr. and Mrs. Wm. HAGG died last Saturday and was buried Sunday afternoon at the Cedar Grove cemetery. The parents have the sympathy of the entire vicinity.
