    1. Death: C.G. POTTER
    2. The Anthony Weekly Bulletin Harper County Friday March 12, 1897 His Neck Broken. A fatal accident occurred on the O'KEEFE ground this forenoon resulting in the dath of C.G. POTTER, a well known Webb City miner. The deceased was working in the bottom of an 80 foot shaft in company with his brother, T.B. POTTER, and between 9 and 10 o'clock this morning they sent up the empty tub for a cup of water and when within ten feet of the top the tub became detached fro the rope and fell upon the two brothers below. C.G. POTTER was standing where the tub came down and it struck him squarely upon the head. T.B. POTTER was stooping and the tub landed upon his shoulders. He saw his brother falling and caught him in his arms. As he was falling the unfortunate man asked, "What's the matter?" and expired withing a few minutes, his neck having been broken. The body was hoisted out of the shaft and word was sent to Undertaker FLETCHER who went out and brought it to his undertaking rooms on Joplin street. A message was sent to Webb City for Coroner WHITELY, but he had gone ! to Carthage and the inquest was postponed until this evening. Decease dwas born in 1851 and had been working in the mines of Joplin and Webb City for a number of years. The shaft in which he was killed is one that is being sunk by his two brothers and he also had an interest in it. Being a practical miner he came over from Webb this morning and had gone to work in the shaft for the first time. He leaves a wife but no children. --Joplin, (Mo.) Daily News, Monday March 8th. T.B. POTTER will be remembered by our citizens as a former fireman on the 'Frisco, and who lost his position because he couldn't read orders.
