    2. The Anthony Weekly Bulletin Harper County Friday March 12, 1897 A.B. HOFFMAN has returned from Topeka where he had been working as assistant docket clerk of the senate. Benny was unfortunate enough to be sick a week and decided that there is no place like Harper county and home. Mrs. Leah WILLIAMS mother of Jesse Williams, leaves next week for Union, Iowa to help care for her mother, Mrs. Sarah Valentine, who has reached the remarkable age of 103 years. Mrs. VALENTINE was 103 years old last October and is in fair health considering everything. County Clerk F. HAMILTON, Register of Deeds, J.B. RANDELS, and W.M. RANDELS the coal man, left yesterday for an onslaught on the ducks and geese in Oklahoma and to get a square meal or two off old friends and relatives. The chicken pie social given by the ladies of the Methodist church last Wednesday evening was a success financially and socially as are usually the socials of the Methodist ladies. Herb TUCKER came in last week from Van Buren, Arkansas, where he has had charge of a local newspaper. He will visit home folks awhile before returning. Robt. M. TURNER came in this week from Oklahoma. Bob attended the A.O.U.W. Grand Lodge at Salina, then visited friends in Caldwell, Oklahoma City and other points. This morning we are wondering whether are in Dakota or Southern Kansas as the thermometer registered only 14 above zero. We don't believe that the freeze will affect either the wheat or fruit but it will be a little discouraging for local gardeners. J.B. MILAM, of Blaine township is one of the wanderers who has returned. Mr. MILAM had a claim in the Strip and having disposed of it moved back to the old farm in Harper county, and was in the city Thursday to enroll himself as a paid in advance subscriber to The Bulletin. Jas. A. HAMMERS has received word via Moline that a cablegram had been received announcing the safe arrival of his son Burtis at Buenos Ayres. (Typed as printed.)
