The Anthony Weekly Bulletin Harper County Friday March 3, 1899 A Serious Accident. C.M. CARRITHERS of this city met with a serious accident Monday evening of this week. Mr. Carrithers had been doing some hauling, and had a shot gun along with him prepared for any chance shot that would offer. Returning to town in the evening he was unloading the wagon somewhere in the rear of Sam Black's carpenter shop, and in removing the shotgun form the wagon it discharged, the load entering the left arm above the had and almost literally tearing off the hand. Mr. Carrithers ran to the office of Dr. BOWERS and the doctor happened to be down the walk, and grasping the arm, in a measure stopped the excessive flow of blood. When in the office Dr. Bowers applied a tourniquet, then sent for Dr. C. J. CALLENDER, it being evident to him that an amputation of the hand and a part of the arm was necessary. Dr. C.J. Callender, Dr. J.H. Callender and Dr. J.R. McKEE assisted Dr. Bowers with the operation, and the patient is getting along all right. We understand that Mr. Carrithers ! has some insurance in two companies that will be applicable to his loss of a hand. The loss of a hand is a serious matter and Mr. Carrithers has the sympathy of his many friends over his misfortune.
