The Anthony Weekly Bulletin Harper County Friday November 4, 1898 Whitman--Gehring Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock Probate Judge McGOWEN united in marriage William WHITMAN, of Alvaretta, Oklahoma and Miss Minnie GEHRING of Berlin township. The ceremony took place at the country home of the bride's mother and was witnessed by relatives of both parties and a few of the near friends. Mr. Whitman is a son of Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Whitman who are well known residents of Berling township and is a successful Oklahoma farmer, while his bride is the accomplished daughter of Mrs. Gehring. The happy young couple were the recipients of many handsome and useful presents. The Bulletin joins their many friends in congratulations and best wishes.

The Anthony Weeky Bulletin Friday October 14, 1898 Bert DAVIS, of the 21st Kansas, is at home on a furlough. Bert looks none the worse for his service for Uncle Sam, and is willing if necessary, to complete his term of enlistment. He rather thinks that the regiment will not be mustered out as soon as was expected when they were given their furlough. He will report for duty at Fort Leavenworth the last of this month.

DENISON of Anthony, Rev. FOOSE officiating. The young couple were the recipients of many valuable and useful presents.
The Anthony Weekly Bulletin Harper County Friday October 14, 1898 Amanda J. HELD, died at her home eight miles northwest of Anthony, on Tuesday, October 4, at 2:20 o'clock, p.m. of peritonitis, aged 72 years, 10 months and 1 day. Amanda J. Held was born in Cincinnati, O., December 3, 1825, where she lived until grown to womanhood when she with her parents moved to Williamsport, Ind., where she united with the Presbyterian church. She was married in 1851 to Jacob Held, and in 1875 moved to Illinois. In 1879 with her family she came to Harper county where she has since made her home. Mrs. Held was the mother of nine children, five of whom are living. All except Mrs. Anna L. SINGER were with her when she died. Mrs. Singer owing to sickness, did not arrive until after the funeral. Mrs. Held was a good mother, a kind friend, and a concientious christian, whose life was worthy of exemplification. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J.R. Edwards on Wednesday afternoon and the body laid to rest in Spring Grove cemetery. Card of Thanks. To the kind friends who so kindly helped and sympathized with us during the sickness and death of our beloved mother, we desire through the columns of this paper to extend our heartfelt thanks. L.M. REDDY and Miss Emma BROWN, both of Harper were married at the residence of the bride's parents in Pilot Knob township last Sunday. While not being personally acquainted with the groom we learn that he is most highly spoken of by those who know him. The bride is well and favorably known to most of our citizens having resided here during the two years her father was sheriff. Their many friends in this city extend congratulations.
The Anthony Weekly Bulletin Harper County Friday October 7, 1898 Ben HOFFMAN of the Harper Advocate made his usual weekly trip to the county seat Tuesday. Ralston's Breakfast Food for health, Grape Nuts for brain and nerves, Pillbury's Vitos for health and strength; Shredded Whole Wheat; economical, wholesome, palatable, nutritious, all to be had at the Alliance Exchange. W.F. KITCHEN of the Hutchinson & Southern was an Anthony visitor several days this week. Mr. Kitchen is in poor health and is taking his vacation in hopes of reuperating his health. Mrs. Grant TRAVIS leaves to day for Toledo, O., on a shor tvisit to Z.B. TRAVIS, a brother of Grant. She may visit other relatives of Grant's while she is in Ohio. Isaac TRASK, head bookkeeper at the First National Bank left Tuesday afternoon for a visit with his sister, Mrs. H. M. DENLINGER at Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Ike has applied himself and has been very attentive to his duties for the past two years and his vacation is well earned. Miss Maude ASH came up from the Strip the first of the week and will attend the public schools here this winter. She will make her home with her aunt, Miss Rachel ALLEN, of the Fourth ward. Mrs. R.H. FOX who has been very sick at her home in the Fourth ward for the past three weeks has so improved as to be able to sit up at this writing. P.G. WALTON has had his residence on North Springfield Ave., fitted up with a system of hot water heaters which will put in use as soon as cold weather sets in. A.C. BENNETT formerly of this city but now engaged in the hotel business at Oklahoma City was looking after property interests here last Monday. Commissioner W.A. MILLER chairman of the board has not been as attentive to his duties as usual this week, and the excuse offered is that a girl baby put in its appearance at his home Monday of this week. For a day or two the little one was quite sick but they now think it will get along nicely.
The Anthony Weekly Bulletin Harper County Friday October 7, 1898 Amanda HELD, widow of the late Jacob HELD, died Tuesday, October 4. The funeral was held at the house Wednesday afternoon, at 2:30 conducted by Rev. J. R. EDWARDS. Mrs. Held was highly esteemed by all who knew her. She died on the nineteeth anniversary of the family's settlement in this county.
The Anthony Weekly Bulletin Harper County Friday September 30, 1898 Sam SMITH assistant cashier of the First National bank made a business trip to Wichita last Friday, returning Sunday morning. Frank FIRESTONE raffled of his tandem bicycle last Saturday evening. Phil RICHRARDS, employed by the Kanas & Southwestern railroad held the lucky ticket. J.M. COX, an old time resident of this city, but now engaged in the grain business in Fredonia, Kan., was shaking hands with friends in the city lat Tuesday. Mrs. T. WOOLEY, of Delta, Colo., and Mrs. C.H. COOPER of this city returned lat Sunday morning form a short visit with Mrs. Wooley's sister at Hennessey, Oklahoma. Mr. GAY, the optician, has now been in Harper county over 17 weeks all together; this is a fine recommendation of his work. He will again visit Anthony on Monday, October 3, remaining two weeks. All examinations free. Office East Main stret at Mrs. Van Fleet's. Sylvester WATKINS is up from Timberlake, O.T., this week on business. County Attorney JONES went to Hutchinson on business yesterday evening. BORN: To Mr. and Mrs. Mason WHITE, Wednesday morning, a ten pound boy. The H. & S. bridge gang is stationed here this week and are engaged in repairing bridges and culverts between Harper and Manchester. Miss Grace LAPHAM is on the sick list this week. Her sister, Miss Blanche, is filling her position at the post office until she is able to return. Mrs. A.B. MEINIKE living three miles east of town, who was bitten by a mad dog some three weeks ago, returned last Saturday evening where she had been to received treatment at the Pastuer Institute. A complete cure was effected and her many friends extend congratulations. In last week's issue we stated that Ed. SEITZ was home on furlough. We wer mistaken, as the young man was discharged owing to a defective eye. The family of J.T. RICHMOND have moved to Wichita where they will reside temporarily, so that Miss Lulu may have better facilities for her study of music. J.R. RICHARDS who has been in charge of the confectionery and short order house, formerly owned by J.S. SMITHSON has retired and Mr. FLEMMING's son came over from Arkansas City to take charge.
The Anthony Weekly Bulletin Harper County Friday September 30, 1898 Danville. E.M. BRIGGS was in town Wednesday. A.W. GLEASON and wife went to Harper, Tuesday. Mrs. PICKENS and BICKFORD went shopping to Harper Tuesday. Isaac CASE is up form the Strip looking after his crops in this township. A car panic has struck this place, they are 75 cars short on this division Tuesday morning. Ed WILSON and W.T. PITTMAN went sojourning in the strip on their wheels Sunday and returned Monday night reporting crops looking fine.
The Anthony Weekly Bulletin Harper County Friday September 30, 1898 Richard COULSON, son of W.F. COULSON, who enlisted in the 22nd Kanas, died in the hospital at Leavenworth, Saturday, September 24. The remains were brought to Harper for interment Sunday, accompanied by his parents and four of his comrades and former classmates at Washbon college where the deceased had been attending school for the past three years. Funeral services were held from the Methodist church, conducted by Rev. McCORMICK, who could say nothing but commendable things about him, who at the early age of 22 years, enlisted in the service of his country. His parents and brothers have sympathy of the entire community. The pall bearers were Corporal Fred LYMAN, M.B. NEFF, C.H. GEPHART, and Lloyd STAHL, of Topeka, A.L. SHELTON of Anthony and Philo BURKHOLDER, of Harper, and all of the 22nd Kansas Volunteers.

Miss Emma BROWN is the oldest daughter of Dave BROWN and an excellent young lady while the groom is a young man of ability who is assisting in the Cole Bros. dry goods store. This worthy young couple will reside in the cottage known as the BALLARD place.
