    1. Accidentally Killed: Moses THOMPSON
    2. Jim Laird
    3. The Anthony Weekly Bulletin Harper County Friday December 2, 1898 Accidentally Killed. Tuesday afternoon Dr. C.E. BOWERS was summoned to the T.B. SMITH farm in Spring township, to assist in caring for a man who had accidentally shot himself, but when he arrived, found the man dead. From Doctor Bowers we learned the following particulars: Moses THOMPSON, the deceased, and another young man were topping Kaffir corn and Mr. Thompson had his 22 rifle along with him and it was standing in one corner of the wagon; while topping one shock they had noticed a rabbit run into another close by and when they reached it the other fellow reminded Thompson that it was the shock with the rabbit in it, and went on with his work; Thompson reached for his rifle and evidently pulled it toward him muzzle forward, for it was in some way discharged the ball striking him right over the left temple. His companion heard the report of the rifle and supposed that he had fired at the rabbit, but coming to the wagon soon after, he found him lying in the wagon with the wound on his head, an! d immediately took him home and summoned a doctor from Manchester or Cameron and afterwards sent for Dr. Bowers. The young man lived about an hour, but the wound was a fatal one. Mr. Thompson leaves a wife and two children to mourn his death, and he is added to the already too long list of victims to the carless handling of firearms.
