Mitchell, daughter of the late D.J. and Ida A. Standiferd, was born August 23, 1891 at Reading, Kansas, and passed away February 16, 1974 at Greenwood County Hospital, Eureka, after a long illness. On December 25, 1923, Ruby Standiferd and B.E. "Gene" Mitchell were married in Emporia. They moved to their farm northeast of Eureka and spent their lifetime on this farm as long as their health permitted. Ruby Mitchell, in her younger years, enjoyed the outdoors and the agricultural life. She was a kind and patient wife, mother and friend. Survivors include two sons, James of Sterling, Colorado and Merle of Eureka; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; five step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren. Her husband, one son, Wilbur and a brother, Rufus Standiferd, preceded her in death. Funeral services were held Friday, March 1, at 2 p.m. at the Campbell Funeral Home with the Rev. Marvin Adams and the Rev. Wendell Johnson officiating. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery. Out-of-town relatives and friends attending the services were Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Standiferd and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Standiferd, all of Osage City; Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Matlock of Madison, and Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Peak of Blue Springs, Missouri.
