LARSON Madison - Mrs. Ernest Larson died Sunday morning at her home in Madison. She had lived here since 1973, when she and her husband moved from California. Mr. Larson died April 23, 1981. A service in the Wilson Funeral Home will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Number Eight Cemetery east of Madison. The daughter of Bernard and Minnie Coltz DeWerdt, Jennie M. DeWerdt was born in Woodstock, Illinois, December 14, 1920. She married Ernest Larson in Zeeland, Michigan, on October 7, 1938. Mr. Brenton and his wife Sarah, who survives him, recently moved to the farm near Quincy from Butler county where they had lived for more than seventy years. The Funeral will be at Walnut Valley church south of Rosalia in Butler county, Friday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock. Burial will be in the Brownlow cemetery near Beaumont, Kansas. JOHN HORTON DIES 1954 Mrs. Myrtle B. Horton, wife of John R. Horton, of Madison, passed away Saturday, June 19, at the Newman Memorial Hospital in Emporia following an illness of four months. Funeral services were conducted at the Lena Valley church at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 22, with the Rev. C. F. Jenkins in charge. Music was furnished by Shirley Carson, Janet Ott, Ermil Kay Ott, Marjorie Schmutz, and Nelda Storrer. They were accompanied by Mrs. Mabel Blank. The casket bearers were Levi Ott, Harry Tatman, Roy Smith, Charles Roberts, Ross Taylor and J. O. Wilson. Interment was in the Lena Valley cemetery. Mrs. Horton was born at Appleton City, Mo., on September 6, 1874, and moved with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Beach, to the Lena Valley neighborhood in 1884. She joined the Lena Valley Methodist church about 60 years ago at about the time that church was dedicated and was an active member of the church until she moved to Madison in 1947. She was the last charter member of the Summit camp of the Royal Neighbors which was organized in June 1905. On February 28, 1897, she was married to John R. Horton at the home of her parents near Madison. To this union were born five children two of whom preceded her in death. A daughter, Elsie, passed away in infancy, and a son, Elton died January 2, 1937. Mrs. Horton is survived by her husband of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Thomas, of Estacada, Oregon; two sons, Rev. Wright Horton of Thayer, and Ray Horton of Canon City, Colo. One sister, Mrs. Larcy Williams of Emporia; and two brothers, Rufus Beach of Wichita, and Reuben Beach of Reece, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Horton had always made their home in this vicinity. They bought and moved to the farm 1œ miles west of the Lena Valley school in 1900 and sold it and moved in to Madison in 1947, on their 50th wedding anniversary. Their 57th wedding anniversary was observed February 28, 1954, in the Newman hospital where Mrs. Horton was a patient.
