    3. You might order through your library on interlibrary loan from the Kansas State Historical Society (at no charge) the 1885 and 1895 Greenwood County census to search for your people. It will be a number of reels of film, but may be your best bet. Another suggestion, you might contact the Registrar of Deeds at the Courthouse in Eureka and inquire if they can find them in their Grantee index to land records giving you a better idea if they came in and purchased land. Good luck to you.

About the same time information came from Seward, Nebraska, that his Daughter, Mrs. Phil Peihardt [sp NEIHARDT], had given birth to a daughter. Newton was married January 27, last. Gone from your home of earthly clay Gone to your home of endless day Gone to your home where angels dwell No sound disturbs, no chiming bell Awakes again the slumbering form But as the sunlight gilds the mourn Will your voice resound through Heaven's dome, to where the Angels dwell, your home. In the year of 1838 he was married to Perlina Walters; by this union there were twelve children, of which only five remain to mourn the death of their father, three girls and two boys. In the year 1840 he moved to Ray County, Missouri and settled on a farm proving a successful farmer. He was a loving husband, a kind and affectionate father and a friend to all in need; respected by all who knew him. During his illness he was a patient sufferer, never complaining, and his death is a quiet sleep. When his wife would tell him she could not give him up, he would say "It won't be long". We shall miss him for he is gone. "Tell me not in mournful numbers, Life is but an empty dream, For the soul is not dead that slumbers And things are not what they seem"

    1. [KSGREENW] Mann Obits-- Do you Recognize them?
    2. Theresa Elliott
    3. Hi folks, I just received these obits from the Greenwood County, Kansas Historical Museum on my grandparents. I was wondering if any of you recognize them? If so please email me at solarize@mindspring.com Thanks, Theresa Mann Elliott William Mann Eureka Herald, July 22, 1920 William Mann was born near Sigourney, Keokuk County, Iowa, December 31, 1854, and died at Eureka, Kansas, July 11, 1920, aged 65 years, 6 months and 10 days. He came to Missouri with his parents in 1868 and then to Kansas in 1876 having resided in Greenwood County ever since with the exception of one year. He was unite in marriage to Amanda A. Taylor September 16, 1880. To this union were born 14 children three of whom preceded him, dying in infancy. There is left to mourn with the mother, Walter E. of Piedmont; Robert L. of Toronto; Mrs. Susan L. Smith of Wauneta, Kan.; Mrs. Maggie M. Johnson of Billings, Montana; Effie V. Kerr of Johnson, Kan.; Mrs. Eliza M. Dossey of Mountain Grove, Mo.; Mrs. Avis V. Wygle of Eureka; Ira N. of Hunter, Okla.; Glen W. & Homer H. and Miss Ruth at home. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. C.A. Casey of Howard, Kans.; and Mrs. E. Cunningham of Cheney, Kans. He was converted in the year of 1897 and united with the free Methodist church and during his years of sad affliction often expressed his desire to depart from this world of sorrow to be with God. He was a loving and kind husband and father, and a good neighbor, often depriving himself to accommodate a neighbor. His hand was ever reached out to the needy and helpless. Besides rearing his own large family he raised from infancy to manhood James M. Taylor a brother to his wife whom he loved as a son. Mann, Amanda Agusta Taylor Eureka Herald, January 5, 1950 Amanda Agusta Taylor was born July 21, 1862, near Tazwell, Claiborne County, Tennessee, the first child of Nathaniel C. and Lucy Ann Taylor, and departed this life December 24, 1949, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Susie L. and John M. Smith, near Blue Mound, Kansas, at the age of 87 years, five months and three days. Her going was very sudden after a few days of illness. She had been very frail for about two years with a heart ailment. She had resided continuously in Greenwood county for the past 73 years, with the exception of one year in Barber county. She came to Kansas with her parents and six brothers and sisters to a pre-emption claim four miles northeast of Piedmont in 1876 where she grew to womanhood on her parents farm. She was united in marriage to William Mann on September 16, 1880, in Eureka, Kansas. To this union were born fourteen children, three of whom were triplets born in 1890 who died in infancy. She was preceded in death by her husband July 11, 1920, and two sons, Walter E., May 25, 1945, and Robert L., October 27, 1948. She was converted and united with the Free Methodist church in 1897 and lived a consistent Christian throughout her long life. After the Free Methodist church in Eureka was discontinued she united with the local Church of the Nazarene of which she was a faithful and loyal member until her death. She had a great love and interest in her church work as long as she was strong enough to attend, and her heart was still with her congregation after she was unable to attend services. Her hands were never idle as long as she could use them and her mind was as clear as a bell to the last. Her prayers were always for the wayward and she enjoyed her children and friends to the fullest. We, her children, have had our wonderful mother so wise and good, many years and her influence for the good things in life will always be with us. Those who survive her are her children, Susie L. Smith, Blue Mound, Kansas; Maggie M. Johnson, Billings, Montana; Effie V. Kerr, Hilltop; Eliza M. Williams, Eureka; Avis V. Wygle, Eureka; Ira N. Mann, Santa Ana, California; Glenn W. Mann and Homer H. Mann, Silverado Canyon, California; Ruth I. Parten, Beaver, Kansas; forty-four grandchildren, forty-six great-grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, four adopted great grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, nine great step-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Francis Fee, and Mrs. Edna Doty, of Piedmont. Amanda also leaves a great number of nieces and nephews besides many friends who will sadly miss her from among them in the familiar paths she trod so many years here. Heaven is richer in our loss of her from our midst. Maggie and Ira were unable to attend their mother's funeral service. Funeral service was conducted by her pastor, Rev. W.B. McCollom, in the Church of the Nazarene, at Eureka, Kansas, and the body was laid to rest beside her husband in the Piedmont cemetery Thursday, December 29, 1949.
