Hello List, Is there some kind person on the list that could tell me where Reece is/was located and what township it is/was in. I am hoping to find the family of William F. Sutton in this area from 1910 to about 1913. I thank you for your time and effort Janet E. Hawks (Jehawks@aol.com)
I am trying to track the family of John L. KECK, Jr. and/or his mother Nancy Jane [RAGLE] KECK. John L. KECK Jr. (b. abt 1863 in Martin Co. IN) was the son of John L. KECK and Nancy Jane RAGLE, apparently one of two children of this couple. John Jr. m. Alice HAMILTON. His sister, Taletha, is buried in Burns City Cemetery, Burns City, Indiana [listed as "Laletha", d. 1937; apparently never married]. Nancy [widowed] and the two children John Jr. and Taletha, appear in the 1880 Martin Co. Indiana Federal Census living with Henry KECK and his family. Both children attended Indiana University in the preparatory [i.e. high school senior] class of 1880-1881. That seems to be the last Indiana sign of this family. Nancy's brother Alonzo RAGLE moved to eastern Kansas in January 1882 with his large family. These family members appear in Toronto, Quincy [family store], Iola, Kalaida, Yates Center, & Virgil by 1890 or so. There were also several families of KECKs living in this general area, and I wonder if Nancy and John Jr. might have shown up in Greenwood [or Woodson] Co.s? Any help along these lines would be appreciated. BTW is there a list-server for Woodson Co.? The spelling of the town where Oliver Smith was born is probably Quenemo, rather than the spelling you showed. It is in Osage County. Since he was born in 1881 I would encourage you to read Osage County census for 1880 (in case he wasn't the oldest child) and the 1885 Kansas State census which should show him. The Kansas State Historical Society will loan the microfilmed 1885 census to your library at no charge. Good luck to you.
