The Greenwood County Historical Society is a great group. A gentleman has helped by indexing a number of their newspapers. I am sure they can help. However, we all need to remember that newspapers for Kansas are available via interlibrary loan AT NO CHARGE through the Kansas State Historical Society to your local library. By reading the actual newspapers ourselves (for several weeks before and after an event) we might find comments about the person being ill, and family from out of the area coming to visit; there may be follow ups of legal notices, and even an auction of the person's belongings. All of the towns in Greenwood County are small, and many had only weekly papers. They are quick to read! In fact, when I find myself with free time when I am in Topeka at the State Historical Society I chose a town where I had family, and just sit down and read those papers. It is surprising to find little stories such as a child who had perfect attendance at school, some one had stolen Grandpa's plow and if it was returned immediately no charges would be filed. When I wasn't able to find an obituary for the same Grandpa because the paper was sold and no paper was printed for the time frame of his death and obituary I searched all the other town papers. I found nothing, but when I crossed the county line I found an excellent article in a nearby town paper. To learn more about borrowing the newspapers go to the Kansas State Historical Society site ... any good search engine will find it for you! g2
