Dear List members, Recently I received an invitation to subscribe to FamilyDiscovery.com (original message included below). This site is rather disreputable and I'd like to explain why I say that: First, this site does not contain original data: it is in fact a "links" page to websites that contain genealogical data. Second, permission to link to those websites has NOT been obtained by at least 2 of the owners. I happen to be on 2 different mailing lists with the owners of websites that have been linked to on this page - both owners have strenuously objected to being included on this site, to no avail. The data these women provide on their pages is free to the public and feel they are giving back to the genealogy community - and object to FamilyDiscovery.com charging a fee. If you try to send an email message to the address they list (email@familydiscovery.com) it will bounce back to you. If this was a reputable site/firm, that would not happen. Folks, normally I would not take a stand against a genealogy subscription site, but in this case, I do. I do not object to people making a profit off of their own labors - but I vehemently object to them making a profit off the "gift" others have provided. Just my 2 cents.
