    3. Hello Margaret.... Using the name that Jackie gave, KINDERKNECHT, I did a search on AltaVista and came up with a couple pages on the Internet with some info on a KINDERKNECHT family that settled primarily around Hays Kansas. A mention is made of St. Peter in Graham County. The sites are at: http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/k/i/n/Brian--Kinderknecht/GENE8-0003.html http://home.earthlink.net/~kinderknecht/ Good luck with your research Bill Sowers >Margaret, >I grew up in Graham Co., & there was a family named KINDERKNEChT, but not >Rinderknecht. 3. Margaret, I grew up in Graham Co., & there was a family named KINDERKNEChT, but not Rinderknecht. It was my understanding, the name (in German) means Baby-sitter. The Kinderknecht's were from the St. Peter area, south of Morland. St. Peter is a Volga German community. The family you are seeking were probably buried in the St. Peter Cemetery, but I don't know that for sure. 1. [KSGRAHAM] Now & Then
    2. Jackie & Zane Smith
    3. Hi List, I received this from another mailing list. Hope you'll appreciate it as much as I did. Jackie Ancestors: Now and Then When Stephanie complained because she couldn't find a parking place near the main door to the mall - her great great grandmother had to make her own clothes and grow her own food. When Buffy complained because she had to work five days a week and couldn't go swimming every day - her great great grandmother worked in her garden six days a week. When Clara complained because she couldn't have a new dress for her date on Saturday - her great great grandmother had three dresses, one for weekdays, one for Sunday and one put away for her burial. When Donna complained because it was too warm and humid at the picnic - her great great grandmother cooked and baked for her family over a fireplace, all year round. When Erica complained because she had to walk three blocks to her friend's house - her great great grandmother walked to town, five miles, and to her closest neighbor's house, three miles, and back, carrying her toddler most of the time. When Flora complained because she had three children and only two bedrooms - her great great grandmother raised seven children in a two room log house. When Gayle complained because she had to take time to go to her grandmother's funeral - her great great great grandmother buried her baby in the field back of her house. When Helen complained because her washing machine broke down and she had to go to the Laundromat - her great great great grandmother washed her family's clothes in a wash tub on a scrub board. When Irene complained because she didn't have a computer on which to do her homework - her great great great grandmother taught her children to read from the only book she owned, the family Bible, and taught them to write on a piece of slate. When Joann complained because she didn't get a baby carrier at the shower - her great great great grandmother carried her nursing baby three hundred miles from Virginia to Ohio, and walked all the way. When Kathy complained because her son's job required him to move to Texas - her great great great grandmother knew when her son left, "to seek his fortune in the West," she would probably never see him again. When Linda complained because the store was out of her expensive facial soap - her great great great grandmother used lye soap, which she made herself from fireplace ashes and animal fat. When Melissa complained because the store was out of her favorite brand of plastic diapers - her great great great grandmother had six pieces of cloth for her baby, which she washed as soon as they were soiled, so she would always have a clean one ready. When Nancy complained because her husband had to go to camp for his National Guard service - her great great great grandmother sent her husband off to the Civil War. He never came back. When Olivia complained because she had to feed , water and walk the dog she had begged for - her great great great grandmother fed the pigs and chickens, and milked the cows before she prepared breakfast for her family. When Pamela complained because she didn't have an espresso machine - her great great great grandmother made coffee from chicory. When Roslyn complained because the number she called didn't answer - her great great great grandmother sometimes, if she was lucky, got one letter a year from her family "back East," her only contact with them. When Sharon complained because her wedding ring only had three diamonds - her great great great grandmother sold her wedding ring to buy medicine for her sick babies. When Terri complained because the TV wasn't working - her great great great grandmother watched the sunset for entertainment. When Vivian complained because there was no hot water for her shower - her great great great grandmother pumped water from the well, carried it inside, heated it on the coal stove, bathed the youngest first and everyone bathed in the same water. When Wanda complained because she had to take the kids to the Doctor for their shots - her great great great grandmother lost most of her children to mumps, measles, cholera or diphtheria. J. Wilms

    1. [KSGRAHAM] Census
    2. Jackie & Zane Smith
    3. Hi list! Just received this information from another list. I'm very excited and will be subscribing when it becomes available. Jackie This fall, SierraHome's Generations brand and Heritage Quest will be launching GenealogyDatabase.com with the very first online collection of all U.S. Census images from 1790 - 1920. (1920 was the last year released to the public because of the 72-year waiting period. The 1930 census will be released on April 1, 2002.) Heritage Quest is also working on indexes for each year, and has already completed 1790, 1800 and 1870. This is a monumental step forward for online genealogy resources and will be of great interest to serious genealogy enthusiasts and newbies alike. The census is widely regarded as the most important primary source for tracing one's family heritage. GenealogyDatabase.com will be the largest collection of primary source documents on the Web, many of which will be searchable through Heritage Quest's painstaking efforts to extract the names into indexes which link directly to the digitally enhanced image pages. GenealogyDatabase.com will also be accessible through HeritageQuest.com and SierraHome.com. The site will be subscription-based, comparable to other genealogy sites currently online. We will update you on the pricing model when it becomes available. The most important thing to keep in mind is that GenealogyDatabase.com will be the ONLY site offering the entire collection of U.S. Federal Census images for people to access from the comfort of home. The Census data alone is the equivalent of 12,555 rolls of microfilm and sells for $250,000. There will be 10 million images of Census pages at launch, representing more than 500 million Americans. Heritage Quest is committed to indexing new names at the astounding rate of 500,000 per week! Anything else I should I know about? Furthermore, we intend to make this a living Web community. One feature we're working on for the site will be a "sticky note" technology where members can leave messages behind for others looking at the same page of the census. Keep in mind that census entries were done door-to-door, meaning that families listed on the same census page were neighbors. Many genealogists believe it's essential to research in clusters, since people simply didn't move as often or as far back in the 18th and 19th centuries. GenealogyDatabase.com members can leave behind messages requesting information, pictures, or even correct errors that they know to exist on that particular census page. NOTE: This "sticky note" technology will not be available at launch, so genealogists should check back because we will be adding new names and features each week once the site launches! With a site this huge, we will be introducing new innovations in stages. Give me the nitty gritty details. At launch, GenealogyDatabase.com will offer: * Digital images of the U.S. Census from 1790 - 1920. * The most accurate indexes for the years 1790, 1800, and 1870, which will let site members type in the names of ancestors and link directly to the digital images of handwritten census pages. (Keep in mind that these are fresh extractions of the census. It was determined that existing indexes were filled with errors, which was unacceptable to us. Heritage Quest has recently completed fresh extractions of these three census years. Other years are in the works.)
