She died Tuesday, July 12, 1994, at a Lawrence nursing home. Mrs. CARSWELL retired from the credit department of Emery Bird Thayer Department Store in 1961. She was born Feb. 20, 1896, in Cloud County, the daughter of Charles Frederick and Mary JOHNSON ANDERSON. She moved to Lawrence from Prairie Village in 1978. She was married to Jay Horton CARSWELL on Nov. 24, 1922, in Leavenworth. he died July 15, 1969. Survivors include three daughters, Dr. Irene PEDEN, Seattle, Jo Ann LAUGHLIN, Pittsburg, and Cynthia GALYARDT, Lawrence; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to the Good Samarian Fund of Lawrence Presbyterian Manor or to Douglas County Visiting Nurses Association and sent in care of the mortuary.
