Mohr,Savage, Lacey, and Houge all lived here in Lawrence, KS. They are buried in our city cemetery, Oak Hill. A good person to contact is Dianna Quinones, "audiana@AOL.com She is part of that family. Tell her George gave you the information. ----- Original Message ----- From: <perfinhole@yahoo.com> To: <KSDOUGLA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, June 26, 2002 3:13 PM Subject: [KSDOUGLA-L] 1859 KS Territorial census; & a Douglas County geography question > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: Moore Mohr Savage Lacey Hogue > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Zl.2ADI/103 > > Message Board Post: > > The article in the Feb 21 1872 Lawence paper says my kin, who died in a shooting, "was a farmer residing on the island in the Kansas River five miles above this city." A search on-line through Ancestry shows me that he (Mahlon/Malon Moore/Mohr) was listed in the on-line index for the 1859 KS Territorial census. I went to the National Archives and looked in the 1855 census index, the 1860 US census and the 1870 census with no luck finding him. Looking for any sign he was married and if he had kids. Anyone know where that 1859 census will be viewable? Got an address and a phone # for that library? > Tht location, "on an island in the KS River 5 miles above (Lawrence)" Where would that be?? Wakarusa Twp? Over the county line? Lecompton Twp.? Grant Twp.? Inside Lawrence City? I can't figure out why, if he was there in 1859, and died 1872, why I can't find him in the 1860 or 1870 census, unless he was living in a Moore relative's family and the census listing was in someone else's name, but I went paage by page through the 1860 and 1870 census' and found nothing. I see there is a thread of Lawrence reaaching north from the city. Is that thread running along the KS River? Maybe he was there. What district, or ward, of Lawrence would that be in? Jerry D.
