I found my notes and looked at the census. It is diffently an L. If you look four lines below L. Carpenter you will see the name Lucy and the L's look the same except in Mr. Carpenters case The writer got carried away with his curly cues. At least this is my "expert" opinion. Also down further on the page is a D. which is written very differently. Vicki
