    3. Diana The Douglas Co. Gen. Soc. published two books of the tombstones in Douglas Co. cemeteries (one book for Lawrence and one for the remainder of the county). Neither of them list any Carmichael tombstones for the time period you are seeking. Now as to possibility of an obituary--It is not likely that one would be published. It was not a common practice in those days to have an obituary for a deceased infant child. But there was sometimes a death notice in the newspaper. It often read "The infant son of Tom Jones died last week." There were newspapers in publication in Lawrence during that period. The more likely newspapers to check would be: Kansas Daily Tribune (Lawrence) Film # L-661 Dec. 14, 1870 - June 25, 1871 Film # L-662 June 27, 1871 - Jan. 7, 1872 Kansas Weekly Tribune Film * L-2971 9 May 1867 - Aug. 10, 1872 Those are avail. through Kansas Historical Soc. interlibrary loan. There are also copies at the Lawrence Public Library. I'd be willing to read microfilm at the Lawrence Library covering about a week's period after birth/death date to see if I coulfd find anything. At best, it will be unlikely to tell us much detail. Specifically for: William T. Carmichael, born June 24, 1871 in Lawrence, Douglas County, Kansas...apparently lived only a day or two (or three)...parents were John and Catherine (McArthur) Carmichael. Any info appreciated to locate grave/cemetery or possible obituary for William. > Thank you! > Diana Carmichael

    3. Are those books still for sale? Barbara J Wellman wrote: > Diana > > The Douglas Co. Gen. 3. In response to the question as to purchase of the Douglas Co. Cemetery Tombstone Census books--They were available a couple years ago and I believe they still had copies available. The costs were: Vol, 1 (Lawrence City) $35 Vol. 2, (remainder of county) $40 If the purchaser is from Kansas, need to add sales tax. Postage is included in the price. Order from: Douglas Co. KS Gen. Soc. P. O. Box 3664 Lawrence, KS 66046-0664
