    1. [KSDOUGLA-L] Re: Where is Medina KS?
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Zl.2ADI/25.3 Message Board Post: Yes, Medina in on the N. side of Kansas River, but that is Jefferson Co. I checked the burial records in Jeff. Co. and don't find any record of your Cardwell. However, checked the Douglas Co. published cemetery book and found some info. There was a W. A. Cardwell listed on the Lane University Board of Trustees in 1865. Lane Unit. was in Lecompton, KS. There is also an entry for burial of W. A. Cardwell in Maple Grove Cem., in Lecompton Twp. However, it notes there is no more data than the name. There is a page of hist. about Big Springs in Lecompton Twp. and it lists W. H. Cardwell as one of the early settlers. It also states that "possibly the first child born here was Sarah S. Cardwell on Aug. 4, 1856." [Note: I don't know if the middle initial is a significant difference as reading old script, an "A" and an "H" are very similar. There may have been two persons, but more likely the same person.] Death records for death certificates did not start in Kansas until 1911, so there is no offical repository for death info. before that time. Hope this helps your search.
