The only child known of is: Hattie Johnson b: 1871. She remembers being born near Kansas City, KS. Anyone with any help/info would be so greatly appreciated!! This is our dead-end. Hattie Johnson m: Alfred Thiel who was born and died in Ohio. All Hattie and Alfred's children were born in Ohio, which leads me to believe that they moved to Ohio at some time before 1902 as my G-pa was the first born and in NWOhio. Anyone with any information on Lars would be so appreciated! Thanks! Star
In response to your query, I submit the following as taken from the Douglas Co. Cemetery census book, page 371. There is additional information indicated from other sources. That is all included in the same cemetery book, only referenced as to the source. I think it probably will answer your question about Lars Johnson. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SWEDISH--JOHNSON, HELSTROM CEMETERY, CLINTON TOWNSHIP. Owner: Kansas University Endowment Association Location: This cemetery is located about one mile North of Lone Star in a very secluded and wooded area, on land called the "Adams Campus". History: This small abandoned cemetery consisting of about sixteen graves is enclosed by a rock fence, and marks the location where a number of Swedish settlers chose to farm. The land for this cemetery was donated by Mr. Lars Johnson who came to America from Sweden in 1855. It is possible that the first burial was that of a member of the Johnson family, but the first known burial was that of a Mr. Bergman, who was also born in Sweden, and died some time between the year 1855-1860. Mr. Bergman was a bachelor, a farmer and a stone-mason. Two pieces of sandstone mark the graves of a father and his son, althought the elements have nearly worn away all markings. J. S. Ekman was born in Sweden Mary 31, 1816, and died in 1855, his son Carl Ekman, also born in Sweden, was a young man who met his death when Quantrill raided Lawrence August 21, 1863. Looking at the census we find several other Swedish families in this area; some could possibly be buried here in unmarked graves: John Wenstrom family--John and Inger Holom family--H. Andrews--Peter and Anna Christian. These were all neighbors in 1875 census. BURIALS Johnson, G. (or C?) L. 1849-1901 Johnson, Lars 1811-1885 Johanna E.
