    3. Tom, Vicki, et al., My father, Milton Beach, was born in Clinton and his father and grandparents lived in the Lecompton, Big Springs, and Clinton areas from 1855 to 1920, when Dad and his mother and brother moved to Lawrence. Some of these names you mention are familiar to me. Dad was a friend of Olin Petefish, who at least until 15-20 years ago was a lawyer in Lawrence. He may be deceased by now. Olin's father was Lincoln Petefish, who was a friend of my grandfather, Mark Beach. Below is what Dad wrote in his autobiography about the two Petefish men. "My father had a rather stilted, formal manner that is completely foreign to most people today including, I believe, me. This can best be exemplified by a letter he wrote from Fort Riley in 1917 to a good friend, Lincoln Petefish, which in part reads as follows: "Dear friend Link - I have heard of your good work in connection with the Red Cross for which allow me to express my appreciation. To those of us in the army, though not yet at the Front, that cause comes pretty close home and I am sure that each man in Olive Drab will go forward to duty more courageously and give up his last drop of blood more willingly when he knows that the folks back home are thinking of him and making sacrifices for his comfort and safety. This letter was given to me recently by Mr. Petefish's son, Olin Petefish, a prominent lawyer in Lawrence." There were Blankenships and McCalls that were related to my family. Matilda Spurlock, who was a sister of my g-g-grandfather, married Sylvester Blankenship. They had two children that I know of, Virginia and Alexander. Virginia married Moses McCall. Among their children was a J. S. McCall. I think his name was John. I have more info about the Blankenship and McCall families if anyone is interested.

    3. Thank you for sharing, Jane. I understand the Petefish family originally were from Rockingham Co., VA which is where we live. There are none listed in the phone directory, however. 1. Marking unmarked grave ideas WWA: Re: [KSDOUGLA-L] Clinton Cemetery

    3. Jane, I don't have the Clinton Cemetery info you request but thought I would send along an idea that came through on another list for those of us who would like to mark some unmarked graves (see below) - Susie From the KS-Cem list: Hi, I wanted to place a cross on an unmarked grave and found a company who made a cross for me out of hard durable plastic, and it's the plastic that acid tanks are made out of to clean computer parts. They were very reasonable and I wanted to share them just in case anyone was in the same predicament I was. I'm not trying to sell something just share a great thing, which was under $40.00. It included shipping and handling. This could help people like me that can't afford a tombstone or for a grave that's unmarked. They told me if someone bought it in bulk the price would come down. They were 24 X 9 inches, and I put a picture up at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~txmdhms/cemetery_crosses.htm They don't normally make these but I was so ecstatic I wanted to share. They will customize any cross, but the plainer they are the cheaper they are. They endure any type of weather and even acid won't destroy them; I'm so grateful for their service and hope I didn't offend anyone on the list by placing this. Thanks and sorry for the off topic but they're great.
