I've found them mostly from Ohio and Indiana and moved on to Kansas. A branch of my husband's people came from Indiana to Kansas. Their names were Badsky and Kes(s)ler. There was an Elizabeth Kesler that married a Bowers. But maybe they had a daughter named Elizabeth that married a Baker. I really don't know but I can check it out. I get the Lawrence newspaper and a few weeks ago there was an article about an Ulrich fella that was quite elderly. I think I sent the article to my brother-in-law in Lyndon, KS, so I will see if he still has it. But, there is an Ulrich Cemetery south of Lawrence that I can see from the highway that I drive every day. The fella talked about that cemetery in the article. Since today is Sat. and cleaning day for me, this evening I will check some of my records and see what I can find for you. If I start researching this morning, I won't get ANY work done! Hope I find a clue for you. But, I bet this Ulrich fella could help you out. Loretta

PETTY Mr. Johnson PETTY died at his home in north Lawrence at 2:30 Thursday morning Jan. 25, 1900. He was born January 16th, 1841 near Pontiac, Oakland county, Michigan. Mr. PETTY was a member of Company E, Sixth regiment Kansas volunteer cavalry. He received a bullet at Dry Wood, Missouri in a battle, which he carried in his body to the end of his life. He was a member of the city council from the fifth ward for ten years. He was married in the spring of 1875 to Miss Jennie COLE. He leaves a wife, one son, two brothers and three sisters. He has been an Odd Fellow for twenty-seven years. There is probably no one in north Lawrence who can claim so large a list of personal acquaintances and friends as did Mr. PETTY. His home has been in north Lawrence for thirty-five years, where his constant and faithful attendance upon the duties of life, his uniform courtesy and kindness, his agreeable manners, accommodating disposition, and patient application to the details of life won for him the highest respect and esteem of all with whom he came in contact. And though decided in his convictions and firm in the expression of his opinion with all, he bore himself so meekly that he was never known to make an enemy. He is dead now. The heart that throbbed quicker when a friend was near, is still now, though friends and all about him. The brain that had won him a man's place in the world, while he lived, is at rest. The voice that has sounded kindly in the ears of thousands, that has brought him friends and bound them to him is hushed forevermore. And as he would have de for us had it been thus decreed so we for him. "Write him before the world, and For old time's sake The strongest and the sweetest plea That yearning love has learned to make. Scatter flowers upon his grave, And may he rest in peace." The funeral was held at the house on Locust street, January 26, and was conducted by the Odd Fellows and G. A. R. members. --Lawrence Journal.

GOURLEY died this morning at 6:30 at the home of Mrs. DOBSON, 909 Ohio street, was 27 years old and the wife of Rev. T. H. GOURLEY of this city. Her death was somewhat unexpected, although it was the result of an illness that has been growing up on her for the last sixteen years or more. She has been seriously ill for the last three weeks. Rev. GOURLEY and his wife were married three years ago. She was formerly Miss Effie MASDEN of Lenora. She wa a school teacher in Norton county before her marriage and expected to attend the Normal here this summer, but was prevented by her sickness. Mr. and Mrs. GOURLEY have lived in Lawrence for the last two years and Mrs. GOURLEY has many friends in the city who will mourn her death. She was a member of the First Congregational church and was converted to the Christian faith about four years ago. Her death was a very sad one, coming as it did just as she had entered upon her wedded life, when life was so full of promise and she was so confident and hopeful. (The above is a clipping from a Lawrence paper of this week and handed to us by Mrs. O.W. GLYNN for publication.)

I can probably check the microfilm of the Lawrence Journal-World newspaper when I am in Lawrence and see if an obituary exists. The date of death (per the Gen. Soc. cemetery book ) for Frithjof H. Elvig is 27 Aug. 1984. According to the 1969 Lawrence City Directory, he is listed as follows: Frithjof H. Elvig, Mfgrs. Agent, Lewis & Kane (KCKO) 1511 Stratford Rd. I'm not sure what the KCKO is supposed to be indicating, but thought you might be interested. In the current Lawrence phone book is one person with surname of Elvig: Margaret B. Elvig, 207 N. Regency Place, Lawrence, KS 66049 and phone no. (785) 843-7970. Have no way of knowing if she is any relation to Frithjof, but sure is not a common surname.
