I think she married a man named CHARLES R. WOOD first, and then secondly married ISAAC M. NEWMAN. I have a copy of her marriage with Isaac, because I descend from "Newman" ancestry. I'm puzzled at this point, because I just visited "Sedan" in Chautauqua County, KS, and found out there were other "Newman" people living there and in the city of "ELGIN" also in Chautauqua County. I'm trying to piece together info about all these people, in hopes of locating further info about my "Newman's". If this "Josie" may pertain to your ancestry, then please to email me. Thank you. ----- Original Message ----- From: James Laird To: None Sent: Sunday, December 23, 2001 12:11 PM Subject: W.R. SMITH Honored.. The Perry Mirror Thursday August 19, 1909 W.R. Smith Honored. Our old time friend W.E. SMITH has received the appointment of superintendent of the census for the Second District of Kansas. The pay is good but the job does not last long. However his Douglass county friends will rejoice that he has been permitted to enjoy the honor at this time and next year will enjoy the emoluments of office. "Billy" SMITH was born and raised at Lecompton. He published the newspaper there when a youngster and was the "boy mayor" for one term. He was postmaster under Mr. Cleveland's first administration. A short time thereafter he purchased a job office in Lawrence and did a good business, having the Fraternal Aid work for a year or two. He went from here to Garnett and conducted a newspaper for some time, and for the last several years he has been in charge of the Fort Scott Daily Republican. His success in advancing the interests of the g.o.p in that neck o' the woods gave him the prestige that secured his appointment as superintendent of the census for this district. The Democrat extends congratulations. --Lawrence Democrat.
Hello list, I just ran across a new website. It has a Personal History and Journal Software program that's great. I found it at www.startmyjournal.com. Just thought I would pass it along - I wish my ancestors would have written something about themselves. It sure would have made my work alot easier. Kelly

According to a Booklet The Allen Family by Winifred Nash Whitney 1965 here is the following information about Bert Allen Nash: Bert Allen Nash, sixth child of Addie Gertrude Allen and John Winton Nash, was born on October 28, 1898 in Topeka, Kansas. Three years after his death, the Bert Nash Mental Health Clinic in Lawrence was set up as a Memorial to him. There is quite a bit more on him and his family in the booklet, if you want more I would be happy to copy it for you.
I don't have any knowledge about the Bert Nash Center's namesake, but the Dg. Co. Cemetery records have a burial that may be for the same person. It gives: Bert Allen Nash, b. 28 Oct. 1898, d. 18 Feb. 1947 Ruth (Bushong) Nash, b. 18 Feb. 1899, d. 24 Mar. 1974 both buried at Lawrence's Oak Hill Cem., , Section # 14. ----- Original Message ----- From: <willoughbyj1@cs.com> To: <KSDOUGLA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, November 21, 2001 12:46 PM Subject: [KSDOUGLA-L] Bert Nash > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: Nash > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Zl.2ADI/79 > > Message Board Post: > > I need info on the Bert Nash that has a community health center named for him.
