    1. [KSDOUGLA-L] Union Cemetery lookup
    2. Does anyone on the list have the cemetery records for Union Cemetery? I am looking for Carrie Vail Byerly, died 5 Sep 1972. Her husband George D. Byerly, d. 16 May 1966, and son Harold D. Byerly, d. 16 Dec 1922, are also supposed to be buried there. This information comes from LDS Church records posted by another individual, and I would like to verify it, especially since Carrie lived in Franklin County, not Douglas, during the first part of the century. Also, could someone tell me where Union Cemetery is located? Many thanks in advance. Sharon Dyrkacz North Carolina

    2. J Wellman
    3. This is an easy look-up as there is only one entry on surname of Lamon in the Dg. Co. Tombstone Census book. In Oak Hill Cem., old Section 5, we find: *Samuel A. Lamon, b. 24 Oct. 1843, d. 16 Oct. 1857 *John Bell Lamon, b. 24 Jan. 1874, d. 7 Apr. 1874. son of W. H. & H. A. Lamon *William H. Lamon, b. 1840 d. 1892 * Harriett A. (his wife) Lamon, b. 1847, d. 1929 Checking the marriage records, I find the following on Lamon surname: * Martha A. Lamon, married A. G. DaLee on 1 Apr. 1860 by Rev. W. O. Thomas per Lawrence Republician newspaper of 5 Apr. 1860 *Wm. H. Lamon, married Harriett A. Bell on 1 Apr. 1866 by Richard Cordley. from County Clerk records. 3. The Douglas Co. cemetery records are not available on-line. However, the Douglas Co. Gen. Soc. has published two books (one for Lawrence and one for remaining part of county) that contain most of the burial records. They recorded all tombstones in the county and some other records, but if there was no tombstone and no other tabulated list, some burials are hard to find. They can sometimes be found in death notice in the newspapers if you know death date. If you have a name, I can check the published book. It is indexed, but only by surname, so takes considerable time for look-ups involving common surnames. Birth records were not kept by Kansas until july 1911, so there are no birth certificates available for births before that time. Again, newspapers are about the only other source of information for many of the births. However, they seldom give the child's name, only something like "a son (or daughter) to Mr. & Mrs. Jones last week". Surnames: Hood, Banning, Baldwin Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Zl.2ADI/107.1.2.1.1.2 Message Board Post: Nancy, We have exchanged information on Harry Isaac Hood. You sent me the photos via email. In Milly Spencer Hood-Blackburn's obit in 1910 at age 94 she mentioned a Harvey Hood of Clinton, KS. I have found that Milly's son, Isaac R. Hood and his family lived in Clinton, Douglas Co, KS on the 1880 census. It showed 2 of his daughters on this census. The obit stated Isaac was living in the state of Washington at the time of his mother, Milly's death. I searched 1920 census and found a Harvey and Guy Hood living in same household in state of Washington. I believe this Harvey & Guy are sons of Isaac R. Hood. Isaac R. Hood was brother of George Washington Hood who fathered Harry Isaac Hood in your photos. Harvy & Guy Hood would be first cousins to Harry Isaac Hood in your photos if they are the sons of Isaac R. Hood. I only have the 1920 census record on Harvey & Guy and have been trying to obtain the 1891 Kansas state census to see if it shows Harvey & Guy to be the sons of I! saac R. Hood who is uncle to Harry Isaac Hood in your photos.
