Hello everyone-- As part of my "Kansas History and Heritage Project," I have created a website for Decatur County: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ksdechp/index.html Included on the site is the following data: ~ under "Directories"--1878 Gazetteer and Business Directory ~ under "Census"--1910 index/census images for Allison, Altory, Jennings, Lyon and Pleasant Valley twps. ~ under "History"--1886 county officials ~ under "Schools"--Norcatur High School alumni, 1919-1959 ~ under "Military"--1894 G.A.R. posts and rosters ~ under "Directories"--1884-1885 Gazetteer and Business Directory ~ under "Maps"--1905 School District Map ~ under "Schools"--1886 list of school district clerks ~ under "Directories"--1894 Gazetteer and Business Directory ~ under "Military"--1917 G.A.R. roster, Oberlin post As you can see, there is not a whole lot of information on the site at this time, but I plan to add more data in the coming months. Also, be sure to check out my "Online Counties" page to see if I have a website for your other Kansas counties of interest. I try not to duplicate information that has already been transcribed on other websites, and I always check projects such as Kansas Genealogy Trails and Kansas USGenWeb to make sure that the data I am adding is not already online. I was *very* impressed with the Decatur County USGenWeb site when I visited it-- lots of great information and well presented. I even found a marriage and some land records for some of my own folks on it--and they were only in Decatur County for a couple of years. And the maps--such great resources! Lots of hard work and love has gone into building that site. This website features a search engine, but I strongly urge you to browse the data, as some of the spelling of surnames is questionable. Decatur is the 63nd county in this project--only 42 counties to go! I hope to have all Kansas counties online within the next two years, but until I can gather enough data for a specific county, I will store the files for that county on the state website: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~kahhp/index.html This website houses also statewide information (such as maps, military histories, college files, etc.) as well as serving as a repository for data for the "orphan" counties, and links to counties that do have their own sites.
