Davenport and his wife are buried in Mount Olive Cemetery in Pittsburg, Kansas. The tombstone(s) have: Davenport Leona 1868 1944 Jas H 1868 1934 (Tombstone Transcriptions of All Known Cemeteries in Crawford County, Kansas 1867-1976 from the Original Records of William C. Cuthbertson). James' obituary noted, "James H. Davenport, 66, native Kentuckian and brother of Judge J. F. Davenport, died at his home here on Aug. 11, 1934 after a continued illness of many weeks. Survived by his wife, Mrs. Leona Davenport, and by two children, Alston Davenport of Morrison, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Lois McKay of Arcadia. In early life, he took membership with the Methodist Church. He came to Kansas in 1917, locating near here. In 1918 he moved to Arcadia where he took membership with the Christian Church and served many years as an elder. Funeral services were held from the Christian Church on the morning of Aug. 13. Rev. W. E. Babb of Girard gave the sermon. Prayer was offered by Rev. H. G. Kenney. Music was rendered by a male quartette consisting of F.A. Jewell, E. E. Stock, Glen Hopkins and Charles Hamilton. Miss Capps presided at the piano. The undertaking was in charge of H. G. Kenney assisted by Otis Smith of Mulberry. Glen Hopkins also assisted. Interment at! Pittsburg. The community sincerely regrets the passing of this upright citizen.
