    1. Re: [KSCRAWFO] Umphenour and Lucas Marriage
    2. Hi Lois Kay, Lizzie and my grandfather Henry Wilson Umphenour were married, where is uncertain, SE Kansas or NE Oklahoma. They had two children, Gertrude born about 1903 and Claude born about 1905 (in OK) according to the 1920 census where he is living with Lizzie and her husband Jerry Beard. Hnery and Lizzie divorced at some point and Henry married Ada Salome Raber about Oct 1909. My mother was born in 1920 and the family lived around Girard, Walnut areas. I have no idea what happened to Gertrude of Claude. I did not even know of their existenance until a couple of years ago when I contacted my Shireman relatives in Girard. They only knew of Henry's marriage to Lizzie, not of his marriage to Ada. My mom passed away in 1963 and being a young child at that time I really did not know relatives. I have been back to the Joplin, Mo, Girard, Walnut, Farlington Ks areas several times to collect what information I could. I did find Calude Umphenour in jail in Clinton, MO in the 1930 census where he has been married about a year. Until the 1940 comes out I have no more leads. Of Gertrude I have no idea as she is not listed anywhere I can find in 1910 or 1920. Of course by 1920 she may have been amrried and would be under her husbands name. After Jerry Beard passed away Lizzie married again in Washington Co OK I believe. She and Jerry had a son named Earl. I've not been able to trace him either. I nay need your information at some point if I can find the other "family" members. Thanks so much. I don't have access to any more information than I gave you from a CD of Crawford County marriages. Perhaps the Crawford County clerk's office could give you more. I did find that Henry W. Umphenour is buried at Walnut Cemetery where his tombstone is inscribed Umphenour Henry W. Sept 27 1877 July 6 1944. Next to him is Ada S. Aug 27 1882. Do you know what happended to Lizzie? Englevale used to be a thriving community, but not much is left. When I was a little girl (probably early 1950's) there was a small store, where I remember an aunt and I getting bottles of cold apple cider. My grandparents lived at Englevale for a few years in the early 1960's, and a couple of my cousins attended the school there at about the same time. I believe the school has since burned. The last time I was there (about 15 years ago), all I saw were maybe twenty or so homes and the cemetery. If you have a Kansas map, Englevale is northwest of Arma and east of Farlington. I know next to nothing of Elijah (born about 1862 in Illinois) and Diana (born about 1856 in Illinois), but I could tell you more of Elijah's parents (Charles Lucas and Sarah Watkins) and Diana's parents (Jacob Workman and his wife Anna). Several of my relatives married into the Lucas and Watkins families.
